It was a bit strange, it would die off to almost nothing thrn get really strong a few minutes later
Question for those watching on tv, should we have gotten a free kick for a high tackle right at the end? I didnt get a clear vision of the contest

It was a bit hard to tell because the camera wasnât in too close, plus I was watching on an iPad mini
Considering you thought it was Long I donât think you have the right player in mind and your judgement might be a little off⌠He was putting his body on the line non-stop.
The problem is you need about 4-6 players that can play midfield around Mutchâs bracket. We just have one, Mutch. The rest are established players who are gpoing to retire, so we need to stock up on young and eager midfielders next year.
I thought Mutch will be a very good player, again people tell me âhe has no obvious strengthsâ but he follows the ball like few others and wins a lot of the ball, and mostly just does the right things. I thought Langford was class and heâs someone that can really hurt teams if you give him space, I thought both were in our bests today.
Smack had one of his good VFL games that makes you think âif onlyâ. Marked well, was robbed of a few and played like the typical Smack when heâs in form that youâd expect. Didnât get a ton of opportunities but did well when he did get them.
Dea was very good, then heâd turn it over under pressure and then heâd do something good and then heâd do something bad. You never know what youâre gonna get but he was mostly good today, mostly.
Draper looks a gun, atheletic, tackles hard, kicks well, wins a ton of hitouts. Iâd be thinking a few games for him minimum next year, heâs our next number 1 in a few years.
Bird was disapointing, and was Howlett imo. Bird missed some bad tackles where heâd have him, then his opponent would just throw him off. Not good enough. Howlett had some good moments but both should have been far, far better.
Morgan had a few nice moments of run, was probably one of his better games which says a lot, and kicked our first goal, but literally just doesnât do enough often enough. He also worries me big time defensively and under pressure deep down back. Often has the âdeer in headlightsâ look when itâs a one on one. Would be 50/50 to get another year, probably will based on retirements but is a long way back. His only attribute is pace and heâs at Dalgliesh levels of anonymity during games.
Redman was OK, people are talking him up so fair enough but I didnât think he was that good. Had a few nice moments but didnât stand out for mine but happy to be proven otherwise. Heâs someone weâll need to come on leaps and bounds next year, he hasnât got long before those training.
I thought most were harsh on Francis, not sure what you expect in a low possession game, to have 30 touches and 6 goals. Our delivery was sloppy and most a midfielders game for shots at goal. He did well enough for mine when he got near it, not obvious mistakes. I can understand those saying he should have had more impact.
Stanton had a fine last game a few early fumbles aside, and did his usual sweeping job down back. Thanks for everything, Stants. I thought Ridley was disappointingly quiet after a good year and whilst Clarke had good forward pressure I canât see how that translates to AFL level. Heâs not that quick, doesnât win a lot of ball, and is pretty average in most departments.
Also very disappointing not to have Luey, Hocking & Brown of all people rested for a final but I guess itâs another âda fuqâ management decisions. Long would have been handy today too, but I think heâll be back next year. Itâs another final and another final where we blow a big lead and try and come back late but itâs all over by then.
Can someone please clarify the rules for me. Iâm pretty sure the ball touched the post which is out regardless but I also was under the impression that you are not allowed to grab, hold or lean on the post with the ball in your possession. Is this something that has changed because I remember being taught that in junior footy. Maybe I was simply taught wrong.
Itâs not out of bounds simply via you touching the behind post.
Donât feel bad, the professional commentators thought it was (possibly) a point, rather than out of bounds (i.e. it cost us 6 points and the win, not five points and extra time).
Just another lucky moment for the Dogs.
Losing games we should win is what we do best.
Meh agree to disgree
The kid has got some talent no doubt about that though
He was pivotal to those first two goals in the 3rd term. Took two really good contested marks and hand-balled the ball on quickly resulting in goals. Once he went off the ground we missed his presence.
The ball touched the post mate NOB touched it against the post. Was clear to see on the TV in replay.
A little suprised francis is copping a bit of stick. Thought he was good, definately missed his presence when he went off
what do you mean around Mutchâs bracket?
If youâre talking age, weâve also got Clarke and Begley the same age who are expected to end up midfielders. Langford is also only one year older. Laverde 2.
So thatâs 5.
Were players like Laverde & Begley not eligible to play? People earlier mentioned Hocking, Luey & Brown (I thought he was still injured) but why not play Begley & Laverde, the later in particular as heâs coming back from a longer injury? Seems a no brainer to get more footy into them particularly a final even if its at VFL level.
There is the risk of acquiring an injury. The bigger picture needs to be adhered to. If theyâre in Wooshaâs plans for Sydney (or even back-up for someone whose not 100%) then they donât play. Itâs a final and there is no point taking any risks for a VFL game. The Clubâs focus is Sydney on Saturday.
Laverde wasnât eligible. Hadnât played enough VFL games (6? 7?) and played round 23 in the AFL, which rendered him ineligible.
Great post. â â â â result, but some positives.
Mutch will be first picked in my SC team next year. Will play every game and look right at home. Bookmark it.
Langford is tracking nicely. He has genuine vision in the clearances, taking half a second to actually look at whatâs happening around him. His non-selection has been controversial, but his midfield game has definitely improved this season.
Draper. Wow.
Brown not selected in the VFL tells me there must still be some doubt on Hurley.
Nothing to do with Harts imo. But HurlsâŚ
Would not have played enough games to qualify Iâd say
Well âŚ
What
A
Barstard!
Pure insurance. Exactly why they didnât play luey
