Labour gains (percent) – you can see the rash across the south closely corresponds to the LibDem wins, and there are Irish and Welsh-specific parties as winners elsewhere.

Making a comment for the Travel Thread: that white area and the electorates above it to the N and NW are the best places to visit in the whole UK IMHO. Absolutely spectacular, few tourists and making the world’s best whisky.

That’s bad news - the roads they have there are fkg horrible. Most Australians would not believe them: they are ONE LANE ROADS! If someone comes from the other direction, you have to stop at a convenient bulge in the road and wait till they pass.
With heaps of tourists there it would be a nightmare
But the Poms would be happy that all the profits from the Scottish oil and gas fields went to making life more comfortable down south than upgrading the pre-historic Scottish road system.

Only the best people come from those parts. But, we don’t want to tell too many people because it will get spoilt then. Stick to the party line - there’s nothing really to see above Stirling. That should keep everyone away.

You need to be rational in terms of gas. We cannot achieve 100% renewables energy supply for many years, and that is a fact. We now have all electric home with solar panels and a small wind turbine, and a Tesla Powerwall, which cost us lots. Not everyone can afford this and domestically gas is still needed, and it is critical for many business.
Public housing is a massive longterm issue and it needs 50 years of action, not just 10 minutes.
You think Government is about quick fixes, but even when you have the Policy, often different to enact, especially when you have an Opposition and the Greens just playing games instead of working collectively.
I thought in 1972 that all the problems of the World could be solved by the Whitlam Government, but I was wrong, it is more complex than just having a noble idea.

Termed the Gaza revolt. The Muslim vote was significant particularly up in the Midlands e.g. Leicester, and further up in Lancs cities where they’ve settled in big numbers over the years. It hurt both the Tories and Labour … one of their sitting shadow cabinet MPs was defeated as a direct result whilst a few others just survived by the skin of their teeth.
Jeremy Corbyn benefited though down in London (Islington), standing as an Independent after getting the boot from Starmer’s Labour. Jezza is staunchly anti-zionism and very pro Palestine… has been forever. I’m glad he got in again tbh.

Im not so optimistic.
The UK and us both have a news media that’s lazy, sensationalist, and lacks depth of knowledge, and which is heavily dominated by right wing billionaires .
What that means is that now the Labour Party (like our Labor arty) lurches right in the hope of grabbing the centrist vote, and the Conservative Party careens into far right territory because a flat-out racist extremism party is stealing their lunch, the media will continue to interpret ‘the sensible centre’ as being exactly halfway between what the conservatives say and what the labour/labor government says. And they’ll just continue to act as if the Tories are a rightful government that just happens to be out of power right now until normality reasserts itself, and as such will address the crazy far right policies proposals popping up like weeds as if they were genuine attempts to solve the nations problems. The Overton window is a real thing.

The only win they’ll get this year besides Italy and basket case euros that don’t matter, is trump. he will wreak havoc and retribution like never seen before when he gets back in , and even Murdoch might regret this in the long run.
