Um, that doesn’t automatically seem stupid. There are some major issues around how it’s interpreted in the USA. eg. Money = free speech.
How can you have a lot to say about something you do not understand. Better to leave it to your lawyers and shut up about it.
In any case the First amendment is a direction to lawmakers. So I assume he is actually talking about the right to free speech, unless he wants to be elected to congress in 2022. I note his wife wants to run for POTUS some day.
Context might be important. He might have been saying he’s got a lot of initial thoughts, but needs to fully understand the arguments. There is obviously a lot of history and he might be saying he doesn’t understand the backdrop.
First amendment culturally impacts the US views on free speech, defamation, and a whole swathe of areas he might want to comment on.
Remember Harry sues the UK press when he doesn’t like what they write. He might not actually like the idea of a free for all.
Positive signs? Or is a UK farmer backlash going to delay it . Hopefully tariffs on Aussie wines will start off nice and low after the Chinese imposed tariffs, but clearly for meat, there will be a longer phase in.
Here are the Eurovision jury votes for everyone + the public votes for the UK… bwahahahahaha!
The Rotterdam crowd did have the decency to gasp, and then gave them a substantial round of applause.
The only other time they have ever got zero points was when they invaded Iraq (and put up a much worse song than they did this year).
EDIT: Germany also got zero public votes but not as much sympathy (mind you, they did a very silly song).
EDIT 2: Spain got zero public points too. This is funny ■■■■.
EDIT 3: Netherlands: zero! A bit of booing. At this stage I am crying with laughter.
EDIT 4: Norway get 60 points. Phew. Those hosts were about to get lynched.
EDIT 5: Malta got just 47 public votes. That is some A-grade bullshit. Italian glam rock ended up winning.
Copied from the Euros thread. Disgusting. Especially the parliamentarian who compared taking the knee to the nazi salute at the Olympics.
The one similarity is that I’d assume that not giving the Nazi solute would have been a poor career choice, just as similarly not “taking the knee”, whatever that is.
Just on this, finally he reversed his possie (so unlike a Pollie) , supported the players and condemned the booing.
GB News (aka UK version of Fox News) just launched
Early ratings have it with more viewers than Sky News & BBC News combined
It beat the BBC news channel with 1.1% vs 0.9%
However the news on BBC’s main channel got 30.6%
So really it’s a loooooong way behind. Nice headline though.
QE2, the Queen of Australia, knows how to treat her colonial subjects
- Asks our PM why he wasn’t at the G7 dinner she hosted
- he shuffles, well… we are not part of the G7, only guest status
Sick buuuuurn, Maj.
One of the greatest features of the EU, gone for the British due to Brexit!
What about the pet passport?
Compromise could be compromised by the reported backhander to the EU
Apparently some major visa changes occur on July 01, anyone got a clear idea of what they are?

Could also be some better deals with UK/Aus backpacker visas, which are not part of the as yet unsigned FTA
Some Covid linked tolerances for UK visas expiring 3O June.
Ah, must be the reciprocal work rights on the continent are ending. I really do feel sorry for the young ones who have always had the opportunity to work abroad and now it has been taken away.
