It is wild that the whole Man City saga was caused by some exec clicking on a phishing link.
So their defence is that the government owns the sponsors and they were the ones putting in the money rather than the owner himself. I would have thought that the connection between owner and sponsor is such that this argument will fail.

the club simply needs to be expelled and the owners forced out of english sport. the punishment has to be such that this level of cheating is never worth it again.
