Essendon beat Freo by 19 shots - discuss

doing a better job than those halfwits doesn’t necessarily mean good.

imo footy media is in a dire condition.

Fair point, and I agree.

There would be at least a dozen others that I’d load into the cannon before her, though.

I haven’t seen us play the last 2 weeks or so, but thought our running hard to space to offer an option was very good and a lot better than it tends to be. Kicking to a one-on-one stationary target frustrates me with no one moving.

Tippa was a bit off, but nothing to worry about. He’l fire back,

It’s funny how people see things differently but I think he’s doing really well, he really is starting to will himself into lots of contests and very really leaves the ball behind. Just needs to fix up his set shots and he’ll get more reward for all the big efforts.

No; they generally get penalised if they attempt to dispose legally but fail. If they simply drop it (not have it knocked out) they’re fine.

It’s not an interpretation thing, it’s gross disregard for the considered wording of the rules.

Oh don’t get me wrong, his effort and endeavour was A1 as always. Just had a few fumbles and some bad decisions. Happens to every player.

Exactly. Normally his passes are pin point - yesterday there was a few turnovers.

But like you said, happens to all players.

Glad it happened against a team like Freo, where we were able to get a comfortable win anyway.

Hoping he’s back to his absolute best against Sydney.

Thought Darcy Parish has really got his act together in the last couple of weeks. Being dropped and then injured I think has made him realise that he can’t take anything for granted. Thought he was really good in the first esp with his pressure.

What happened to the days of 2 genuine football commentators calling the game ?
Now we have one commentator with 2 or 3 ex players chatting away to each other in biased & monotone wank chat.

Makes one long for the days of Cometti+McAvaney, which is a worry.

I love the way they see no problem with club presidents, board members, current players etc having jobs in the media passing judgement/ making commentary on their opposition.

The GOOD

  • 7 from 9, nice. 4 from 5 on the road, nice. NOW is when it matters tho, we’ve had a few nice wins and slogged past a few bad teams, now let’s beat some good teams in Sydney/Hawthorn. We failed a test against Collingwood, beating Sydney for the first time in 8 years will be a genuine step forwards. You can argue we were unlcuky against Collingwood, but you can also argue we got lucky playing West Coast with no tall forwards and a GWS team missing their best players.

  • Thought McNiece played his best game, you could see moments that makes him a great VFL player, aka kicking and some decent skill. If he keeps playing like this he’ll prove me wrong.

  • Fantasia is the difference between us winning and losing more often than not. Boy do we need him playing. Gun.

  • Devon Smith every damn week brings IT. Best and Fairest by a mile ahead of Heppell in second.

  • Heppell/Zaharakis were both solid contributors, and Zerrett got it together in the last after a disapointing three quarters.

  • Liking Mitch Brown’s game these days, not the best forward but is a smart player and knows where to lead and his kicking accuracy is welcomed in these dark days

  • Not an amazing positive but I thought Dea worked back into it after struggling early, it’s easy to drop your head but he kept at it.

  • Parish has shown improvement in the 2 weeks since resuming, isn’t trusted with centre bounces yet tho.

  • Guefli and Baguley bring the standard every week

The BAD

  • I know people are happy with playing badly and still winning but this is nothing new, we used to do it early days all the time early on in 2011/12/13/14, playing badly and winning, then bringing that same form to another bad team and losing. You have to bring standard every week. Sydney will torch us if we dish up that first half again.

  • Colyer needs to go. NOW.

  • Myers needs to learn some spatial awareness and his limitations, please no more fend offs. Just keep it simple.

  • Tippa’s first half was an abomination, kicking was well below par. Zerrett gave us not much early on, 7 clangers for the game to boot.

  • Goddard has had better days that’s for sure…

  • Saad fit? Looked hampered, but still played well.

  • Basic disposal and forward kicking in the first half, we went back to the bad days of when we were 2-6 with over possession

I thought it was interesting when Hurley jumped to McNeice’s defence last week. Figured they must see something during the week that we missed. Perhaps we saw glimpses of that during the Freo game.

Funny what confidence does, first time I saw him have a bit of it yesterday.

Can I ask a genuine question?

Why when we beat good teams there are excuses used for us beating them, but when we lose the excuses are not acceptable?

I wasn’t saying that, I was more saying “you can argue we were unlucky against Collingwood but also on the other hand lucky to get WC/GWS when we did, and not starts the crunch time against fellow top 8 contestants, swings and roundabouts”. I thought I clearly mentioned the unlucky against Collingwood part, and looking back, yep I sure did.

This is true. But would you call Joe Daniher a “genuine forward who leads up the ground”?

What about that begley chap.
What’s he doing these days
