I love goldy 2nd best ruck in the comp
I love big ben best full back in the comp.
That GWS’ pressure rating also went so high and we didn’t crack, but instead lifted, is something.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Mums out there.
It’s such a nice feeling waking up on a Sunday morning after seeing the lads play like they did. There was no chance of them letting this one go. The pressure was manic in the 2nd half.
Give me all the footy shows and plaudits pls
Number 15 is the baldy, Nicholls.
Wasn’t he the ump that was so bad in a game verse port Adelaide circa 2008 that the whole stadium would boo him every time he took the centre bounce.
He hates us.
I had a dream that we played 3 quarters of tough, uncompromising football and totally robbed a top 4 team lauded for their dynamic ball movement of said ball movement
Seriously though, the thing that impressed me the most was perhaps the last quarter we’re we just locked the game up in stoppage for a good 15 minutes to ice it.
Lot’s of guilt edged missed chances probably robbed us of a more comfortable victory honestly
To be honest, I didn’t think we were that loud. It was a good, but not great, level of noise. Although Marvel with the roof closed really helps.
I was at that game. Still one of the worst rogerings I think I’ve ever seen from an umpire.
The crowd were apoplectic. I thought somebody was gonna throw something at him.
I get the impression it’s now allowed ( throwing the ball rather than handpassing) by the chumps, ( under direction from the AWFL) as a “tactic” to speed up the game, you know, make it more fun for the target market, it’s happening in all games now.
Loved the game yesterday, but i just wanted to call out one frustrating part of our game we need to fix. I sat behind the goals on lvl 3, and what was very obvious is the way the GWS forwards work together far better than ours. They created space, lead well, doubled back etc… where as apart from langers/gulefi, we were a shambles.
Davey - i have been very critical of him in the other thread. He needs to go back to the VFL and learn the craft, was lost in to forward line and is too easily bump off the ball.
2MP and Jones - simply just call for the ball long and often bump into eachother. The whole crowd behind the goals were going nuts when both of them would just offer no leads or move at all when our mids were streaming up the ground
I hope the spend the week on the track sorting this part of the game out. GO BOMBERS.
P.S - seroiusly we need to try someone else while Davey learns the craft
Massive test of character. And we passed. Stoked.
Langford, Guelfi, McGrath and Perkins were my standouts but there were plenty of honourable mentions.
Let’s talk about the Stringer miss. They had a big lead. They had momentum. We had played awfully. Desperately needed something. And from 20 fkn metres, the colonel shanks it big time.
I thought the game was over at that point. A minute later we concede a ridiculous goal to Greene in the goal square. Would have been easy for the lads to drop their bundle and go through the motions. If anything, it had the opposite effect.
From that point we made a flag fancy look almost second rate. How we were able to lift our intensity so much after such a poor, deflating start is a testament to the players commitment and resilience.
And the last 10 or so minutes? Clinical. We knew they would throw everything at us. No need for silly risks. No need to rush. Burning that clock and matching their endeavour through pressure acts, tackling and numbers to the contest was all that was needed. We wisely knew when to hold onto the ball when tackled to force a stoppage. And their reward for throwing the kitchen sink at us? Zero goals zero.
I’m too much of a scaredy cat to get ahead of myself (not alone on that front) but are things actually improving? Is the long awaited culture change happening? Can we actually… enjoy footy?
Maybe it isn’t out time just yet but we can certainly enjoy the here and now. And the here and now is pretty sweet.
Hopefully.
The coaches watch behind the goals replays every week so our forwards coach should be all over this
Remember when we tried to label Marvel the “pressure cooker”?
Great post, just one thing on this. I was paying particular attention to Hind in the second half after someone else said he played wing when I thought he played defence. I can’t swear for the first half, but the second he and Heppell were switching defence and wing throughout.
Agree. GWS forward line looked to work much more cohesively than ours. The first quarter in particular they led our defence a merry dance.
