Essendon Goal Kicking Ladder

Fk thats deflating reading

So is this, last years top 4.

30 - Crameri - GONE

28 - Bellchambers - can't get a game

24 - Hurley - Backline

19 - Davey - GONE

Chappy is the one that gets me.

Daniher, we all know has a bit of the kicking yips, and will need to continually work on it.

But Chappy should be putting many of those shots through blindfolded.

Zaka is another that I'm not particularly comfortable with from a set shot.  On the run, great.  Set-shot, not so good.

The above is all opinion based on no facts or stats whatsoever.

Prior to this year you'd almost always back Goddard too but he has had the yips like everyone else in the team.

Crameri has kicked 25 goals so far this year.

Amazing how many are pot shotting Daniher. He is a farking kid. Get off his back. He will improve and might not ever be a great set shot, but he sure as ■■■■ is better than anyone else and will be for a very long time to come.

Those figures are a disgrace.  Until such time as the team improves their goal kicking skills, we will continue to struggle up forward.

To be top four, we must be better much better than we are now.

And;  to all those who knit-picked Stewart Crameri, you can now get off your high horses.

If only we had Breust! Has kicked 39.4 and plays more games on wind affected grounds than our boys.

Contagious.

First quarter against Adelaide was something like 6 straight.

Zaka is the worst set shot I have ever seen, On the run however...

Our accuracy is  just not good enough.  Look at Essendon Sydney............ if Sydney were as inaccurate as EFC,  we would have been in that

match.

Essendon has a top 4 defence and an attack that sits at 10 on the league table.   Its very significant that we are 10th on the ladder and 10th in terms of points for.    You have to conclude we are a top 4 side with an impotent attack.   Up until round 16 last year,  we had an effective attack and we were a top 4 side.

Look at the forwards in our 2014 side in order of quality (past record):

Likka:  Injured ,  rubbed out,  or filling gaps in the defence.

Chappie:  seems to play up field most of the time.

JD.  Under 20 games ,  takes top defender.

Jake C.  Learning to be a forward.  One day it will click.

Zac Merret : Apprentice

Ambrose: Apprentice

Belcho:  Good but out of form.

Look at the attacking midfielders in our side in order of quality (past record):

Jobe  Out .

BJ:  Playing more centre/half back.

Zakka:  Come out of his shell and performing well.

Myers.  Not kicking many goals

the rest  patchy......

My conclusion:  Likka and Chappie to play forward more of the time.   Play for the dropped marks / spoils on JD and Jake ( very frequent)

its too late to do anything else now..... just persist with the personnel we have now,  try to settle the team..

With all due respect, those who keep pushing for Dell to come in...regardless of how the seniors go... Really need to seek psychiatric help.
I'm inclined to think that those who think Tippa's ready-made should join them.

I think those who don't rate a small forward who actually kicks GOALS should seek psychiatric help. Would rather have him in the team than Hardy or J Merret anyday

Chappy has played more of a midfield role, when I don't think he should be used like that. Getting sucked into the back half and getting ball, but not in areas that hurt the opposition. Rounds 1-3 he was pretty much a 60m from goal player, got most of his footy forward of centre, kicking goals, creating them, a smart footy brain. I know Jobe is out now but we have to use him in that way. Jerrett proved that he can win it 25+ times and use it well, play him, his bro, etc further up the field, these boys are young and have the legs. Chap can still be effective to us, but we have to look after him properly, and that doesn't just include when we should and shouldn't get a week off here and there, but on game day too.

Agree with playing Chapman up forward. At every stoppage and centre bounce his should be starting forward. Not chained to the goal square, as that's just not possible at all these days. We need his composure, creativity and leadership up forward.

My man Stanton along with Ryder are the only ones I have confidence in taking a set shot at goal.

Thanks for putting that up. I wonder who leads the behinds kicked ?

J Daniher 18.15

B Stanton 14.9

Paul Chapman 12.13

B Goddard 11 .12

P Ryder 11.10

D Zaharakis 10.12

So Joe Daniher leads goals and behinds.

K Hardingham  9. 1   from 8 games.

We can see it but the coaches don't. I'd love Chappy to at least start from the goal square to really make the opposition think about him and in part reduce the congestion in the middle and around the ground. Chappy should be kicking 2 goals a game week after week.

It will come together ok. The more pressure shots Joe gets in front of goal the better. At the moment the marks marks within range are so few and far between that he's under a heap of pressure - not to mention it's often when we haven't kicked a goal for a quarter of footy, and everyone else has had the yips too.

Joe will get bigger & fitter, plus he'll learn a few more tricks close to goal that will get him some easy ones.

Until that happens though we are going to struggle. Sure our defense is pretty good but the good sides have a couple of blokes threatening to tear sides apart. Shultz, Westoff, Buddy, Tippet, Breust, Gunston, Roughhead, Ballantyne, Hawkins, Cloke...

Very disappointing reading those stats. Although Daniher could kick 30 this year, not bad at all.

Just shows you how handy having Crameri was at a minimum, it's not like he was kicking 50+ goals per season, but at least he was averaging 30 goals over 3 seasons. Very consistent. Davey was also very consistent for us in the last few seasons.

Expect Daniher to improve over the years however you need players right now to be consistent.

I would personally be playing Hurley forward way more just because he has kicked 5 goal bags in the past.

We also need Winderlich and Chapman to play as specialised key forwards.

Bellchambers back playing up forward when possible.

Crameri is at 25 this season, with 5 rounds to go he is tracking nicely to continue his 30+ average. Good forward player.
