The PI track is pretty spectacular. How did you like the end of the main straight, with the water views?

Yes was great view. Lots of distractions if you’re a driver I reckon. And that last dipping right hander before the huge left into the straight. My instinct was we were gonna go left, so lucky I wasn’t driving.
But just parking your car next to the track. So many viewing spots from all over the track. Hardly any barriers.

It’s brilliant the entire event.
I felt it was even better a few years ago, unfortunately they run an event at the Adelaide GP track this weekend as well, so a few of the cars and names go there now.
But it’s still a cracker

Distractions aren’t a worry, there is too much going on.
At PI there are ~20 flag points to observe, 12 corners, ~8 braking zones, ~8 gear changes for a 4 speed car, gauges to monitor, other cars, plus braking, turn in points etc.
I will confess to a self distraction episode. I was racing there once coming up behind a Mustang, and thought this would be a good story to tell a rather pretty friend of mine who was into Mustangs. Mid corner, the back of my car steps out and I narrowly avoided throwing it into the scenery. Lesson learnt not to think about pretty girls whilst racing!
Fabulous track. The vibe at historic events is always great. State level similar, drivers are always happy to talk to anyone about their cars.

Oscar extends with McLaren till at least end of 2028.
Interesting, hopefully Mercedes engines are good with new rules next year

Its a great move and very deliberate timing. Oscar will know this year is a big chance, and anything that puts questions in his team mates head is beneficial.

For someone who hasn’t followed the off season at all, does it look like much of a change in performance?
It’s hard to tell from a few days practice. Different strategies and drivers driving in different conditions doesn’t really give a good guide as to who will be the man/ team to beat.
Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull all showed they should be competitive.
Won’t really know the state of play until round 4. Tracks in the first 3 races don’t really represent the majority of race tracks.
In saying all that, I suggest that McLaren will be the team to beat. Booooo!

Potentially quite a bit of rain and with Parc ferme from really stinking hot conditions for qualifying, I wonder if there will be drastically different tactics for some teams throwing quali away to focus on race day

So I’ve got this friend who is going tomorrow and has a ground pass… now given the forecast this friend obviously needs to stay refreshed but the problem is that in this economic climate he’d be hard pressed to spend the venue $$$$ to ensure he’s adequately refreshed.
What method should my friend use to smuggle some additional hydration fluid into the track?
Also worth noting… my friend will definitely still buy some track fluids but not all day.
He was thinking he’d put a full bottle in the middle of his camping chair bag as he knows his cooler backpack will be searched.

Firstly don’t drink at the track, the lines are horrific, go to the Middle Park Hotel, across the road from one of the entry gates, the drinks and food will be cheaper without the long waits. Walk back to track when a race you want to see is on.

I’ve got mates that prebatch Negronis and put them in kids yogurt pouches. If they get asked about it (they don’t have kids) they say they’re meeting their nieces and nephews.
