That took a while.
Bit to unpack there.
Rules are a joke and what happened at the start is embarrassing
Staying extra laps under SC waiting for a Cadillac to unlap itself is rubbish too
Apparently both McLaren drivers on the warmup laps were arguing for inters. McLaren said no. Lando reluctantly agreed and Oscar just overruled and drove to the pits. McLaren pit wall had a shocker today
Lewis drove well but was lucky. Max is supreme.
Sepang is a proper track and a nice timeslot!
everything mclaren did today was just the wrong decision, even pitting oscar under safety car with only 6 laps left was a mistake, cost position to both ferraris and they kept him on hards, should have just stayed out he was faster on the hards than norris was on the softs
The message to Oscar, ‘Hamilton is moving fast, we need you to go with him’ was just weird as hell.
Yeah, sure. I’ll just magically make your car go faster.
hamilton on softs btw
Right? And he was already about ten seconds ahead.
wtf???
with a car inbetween, nonsensical
mclaren can choke on a bag of proverbials for fighting oscar on boxing after formation lap
I thought max was the fastest in the last GC which was reflected in today’s result, while Kimi is much faster than George.
If Oscar went Inter - soft - soft - no stop he would have been a definite chance at a podium. It was always going to be a team strategy plus driver race and Max and Red Bull nailed it. Well done to Lewis and Alonso as well.
| Pos | Driver | Strategy | Stops |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Max Verstappen | Inter > Soft > Soft > Soft | 9, 33, 43 |
| 2 | Kimi Antonelli | Inter > Medium > Soft > Soft | 9, 33, 44 |
| 3 | Lewis Hamilton | Soft > Medium > Soft | 31, 43 |
| 4 | Charles Leclerc | Soft > Inter > Hard > Soft > Soft | 3, 9, 28, 43 |
| 5 | Isack Hadjar | Inter > Hard > Hard > Soft | 9, 31, 44 |
| 6 | Oscar Piastri | Medium > Inter > Hard > Hard > Medium | 2, 9, 33, 45 |
| 7 | Liam Lawson | Inter > Hard > Hard > Soft | 9, 30, 45 |
| 8 | Fernando Alonso | Medium > Hard > Hard > Soft | 9, 31, 45 |
| 9 | Lando Norris | Medium > Hard > Soft > Medium | 9, 34, 45 |
| 10 | Arvid Lindblad | Inter > Hard > Soft > Soft | 9, 28, 43 |
Oscar only driver not to use a Soft within the top 10
yep, agreed strange tactics. Especially after the first set of hards were clearly too slow. Pitting for the second set seemed odd, why not wait and see of they can go to the end? Or wait for a safety car, then put on mediums or softs.
Not weird at all. It’s possible that he was preserving tyres or brakes at that point and that he could push harder. They have all the data in the pits, so maybe they knew something we didn’t.
It’s also possible that they were trying to get him to push so that he would spin out and allow Norris to end up ahead of him.
Still a lot of points available. Kimi just needs to play it safe and hope the car is reliable. I’m guessing the driver in him doesn’t like playing it safe though.
I was thinking of putting some money on Max finishing runner up in the championship. May have missed the boat on that one.
yep - there will be a “St Essington Day” ahead for Kimi where he can’t be overtaken for the championship, but it’s still a way off.
Kimi can/will continue to do what he’s doing… but hopefully being mindful of minimising un-necessary risks and playing the percentages, even if that means giving up a place. Hard to do in the cut and thrust of racing, especially where the margins can be tight and being a bit back in the field can make things worse for accidents.
Not sure if this link works. But it’s OP passing 6 cars in about 3 corners.
I think they showed more overtakes on the little screen to the side than the main screen so we could see someone 1.5 seconds behind someone else.
yep, there’s another F1 race this weekend.
The Singapore GP, which will be run in … Singapore, at night.
And it includes a sprint race, so extra points.
Bottas should make it in time. He’s cycling to Singapore from Malaysia.
