I think people dunking on him are being a bit harsh. At exactly the time he went off the boil, Norris (who was probably underperforming) has come good. Other than a bit of form from Verstappen, and others popping up (Russell, Leclerc) it has been Lando to beat.
If he finishes #2 in the WDC, it won’t be a total disaster. He has a long career ahead.
Clearly both Piastei and the car were good enough for a long period. Simply bizarre how one (or both) things went pear shaped at the same time Landos form and car did the exact opposite.
Maybe lando hasn’t improved, the car has been better than the rest most of the year, oscar has dropped off, if he hadn’t he would be putting up slightly better times than norris like he has all year.
i reckon this is the only place on the internet that isn’t seriously entertaining a mclaren sabotage theory, because we all understand better than a lot of sports fans that sometimes things just suddenly go south for no tangible reason
I don’t know about sabotage, but I think it’s been clear for ages Piastri has been the number 2 driver.
Unfortunately for OP, he was probably over achieving whilst Lando was stinking it up, but the team was happy to claim the points.now that they have their guy hitting his straps
Havent had a great look but at first glance oscar didnt appear to do much wrong? kept his racing line on the inside of the track and antonelli squeezed him?
Oscar screwed on strat again? pit lap 39, put softs on for 12 laps, then pit again for mediums? oscar seemed unhappy at the strat and was told to concentrate on driving , they would do the strategy? Why on earth wouldnt they just go two mediums given he got so much out of the first set?

Other than the 10 second penalty (dubious at best) I thought he raced pretty well. he’s probably not going to be able to claw back the lead unless Lando DNF a race or two.
But, at least he looked quicker and took his chances to pass.
Antonelli didnt seem to think it was penalty worthy, i wonder if mclaren will protest it given oscar finishes second without the 10 second penalty? Or would mclaren rather keep the large gap that norris now has?
*just rewatched incident, antonelli turns into oscar squeezing him on the inside line, this seems a little unfair
cars appear to be level before the apex, antonelli starts to squeeze oscar who locks the breaks to avoid contact, kimi moves further to the left giving oscar no where to go and hits oscar. surely this is kimis fault?
It all started going downhill once he got the penalty in the UK that handed Norris the win. Then the ridiculous handing places back because poor Lando had a slow pit stop, followed by Lando ploughing into him on T1 with the supposed consequences to follow - that never did.
I agree. Think the penalty was harsh. Kim has plenty of room and turned across Oscar who has nowhere to go.
Was disappointed that after that incident Norris just drive away from him to a 5 second lead.
