There is nothing wrong with what Carlton are trying to do, but they will eventually pay the price that Port dictate.

The fact that all parties are communicating (even through a manager) suggests they will end up making a deal. Houston won’t end up at Gorth. That’s just a threat to Carlton.

Having said that, let me say this.

Carlton will pony up Port’s asking price.
Imagine having the arrogance to think this years Pick 11 is untouchable ?

They will be going all out to claim a FLAG whilst Cripps can maintain this extraordinary level.
I hope they fall in a hole but Houston makes them very good, potentially.

I guess it all depends on who Carlton think they can get for 11 in a strong draft. My feeling is there are going to be a lot of players traded for unders this year.

Houston is contracted and has allegedly said if the trade can’t be done he is “happy” to stay. Port are not known for just giving in for the sake of it.

Also if the Papley rumour is true then the Swans will want 11 as well.

We picked up Flip and Setterfield on the cheap, compared to what Carlton paid.

We also got Smith, Sheil and Caldwell not cheaply. Edwards and Aylett are as bad as a lot of those names.

We offloaded sheedy to them.

  • Caldwell was a steal for two 2nd round picks (with change come back to EFC).
  • Smith won a Crichton. We traded picks 11, 47 for Smith, 24, 33. So not too bad.
  • Edwards and Aylett combined cost pick 48, nothing gained but not much ventured.
  • Shiel trade was shocker, no doubt. He has played some decent football though.
  • Stewart was a decent trade, got 60 games out of pick 77.
  • Giles & pick 62 cost us pick 53. A year later we flicked him to West Coast along with pick 62 for pick 55 (Mitch Brown).

Our 7 players traded in from GWS doesn’t compare to Carlton’s haul. We at least got some above average players in Caldwell, Smith and Shiel.
