Father Son Watch (2017 onwards)

Hey man, I’m not judging!

Ohhh fark it, how many years does that leave for the AFfarkinL to change the rules so we end up paying 3x as much for him.
ps loved watching your dad play Koby.

Number 1 pick incoming

Yep the AFL will change the rules where any club can take him you watch Gill will be a kent

Hopefully, Gill will not be there in 5 years.

I know a lot of it is tongue in cheek & well intentioned but geez I feel a bit uneasy about tracking a kid from U12s. It’s one thing for scouts and clubs to do it internally but it’s probably not healthy if he stumbled across this sort of thing and either got a big head or felt the weight of expectation, particularly with the famous name.

With The JHA newsletter highlighting every achievement our father sons have as juniors I highly doubt blitz hype would factor at all

Pretty sure this kid is driven given everything that he has done so far in his junior career.
Blitz hype is just noise.

Biggest threat for him is probably burnout, fall out of love with AFL or become good at another sport, or injuries - just look at poor old Baldwin.

I Believe a few people have been following Daveys progress for a while…but really takes off on blitz after under 16 champs etc where there is a realistic chance they will be drafted.

You might be right. I reckon it’s a bit different as the JHA newsletter is just a one-way publishing format whereas blitz invites commentary.

I appreciate your posts and insights, as well as the hours of watching games/tapes that goes into it, so my comment wasn’t so much about you or your posts keeping tabs on his progress. I’ve followed along on this thread since the days of hoping Jett Bewick was going to make it, so I do appreciate seeing how potential f/s picks are tracking!

It’s more directed at the comments that follow - I’m normally all for the irreverence of blitz but something about it doesn’t sit well with me in this case. Either way, blitz is gonna do what blitz does.

Yeah I don’t disagree with most of that.

I think some of why it sits uneasy with me is summed up by the use of the word career, when you referred to him playing U12 and below as his junior career. I know it’s probably the right term but it says something about the professionalisation of the game that I don’t like.

(If you can’t tell, I’ve spent too much time lately reading critiques of capitalism)

Elite recruiters are keeping track of kids at this age, or at least who makes what teams, wins B&F’s league B&F’s etc.

Not too different that Hewitt and Tennis, people are already looking at his kids and projecting his son might be a tennis player and his daughter an actress…its a bit related to celebrity.

But had we got benefits like a sydney or GWS academy, we would be excited over a Heeney or Mills or Hopper coming through, even zero father son links.

Heeney joined Sydney swans academy at 12 years old.

Its really nothing more here at blitz than well done on success so far.

Just cos elite recruiters keep track of kids from age 9 or whatever doesn’t mean we need to splatter it all over the forums. If nothing else, club recruiters operate under AFL rules and generally in conjunction with parents/junior clubs/welfare people when dealing with kids that young. Personally I prefer to leave the kids alone in a public forum until they hit the u16s or so. It always seemed to me a bit intrusive following closely the performance of some kid who’s not even old enough to shave.

There’s plenty of time. And hell, there’s a LARGE number of gun 12yos who’ve turned out to never grow over 167cm or who discover at age 14 that they prefer weed and beer and girls to grilled chicken breast and cardio for every meal. Give the kid some time and space I reckon.

I grew to 176cm. You were close.

Or they could just change the rules so we can draft lil SOD now.

If Hobbs gets and keeps #8, then we can have

  1. Koby Bewick.
