The thing about the NAB under 18’s, the clubs tend to put the players they think will get drafted in the best, even if they might not be. Just to push their names up further.
Maybe he wasnt listed because he is a 19 year old (applied for draft last year)…there were at least 4 each side I heard.
makes it a bit harder for the under agers 17 year olds.
Sometimes maybe, but not always. Especially early in the season, kids often get in the bests for doing something noteworthy or courageous or for playing their role in the gameplan in a disciplined way, regardless of stats.
I saw a halfback whose name I’ve long forgotten get in the bests for a 6 touch game once. He did very little of note all game - but at one point he backed back into the hole in front of a leading Jon Patton (who probably had 15kg on him) and got absolutely smeared all over the turf. They had to bring out a spatula to scrape him off the ground and take him to the bench. But he played his role and did the team thing bravely and got in the bests for it.
Wardlaw, Tsatas and Ashcroft are all good bets for top 5 selections come draft time, and there would have been another 10 prospects who are 1st round fancies; so it isn’t surprising there was plenty of scouts at the game.
But it looks like Oakleigh domination looks set to continue this year again.
