Father Son Watch (2017 onwards)

It nearly didn’t happen.

And there was people on this forum complaining that we’re gifting him 100 games.

Add their touches together and it makes a decent game.

What type of player is Alessio?

A 3rd tall type with really good hands overhead, can play forward or back but doesn’t seem to have a standout athletic trait which are usually needed for 3rd talls at the next level. Likely plays VFL with us next year along with Misiti.

What about Alex Hird?

I’ve never seen him play, he never played NAB League.

Just watched the replay of Oakleigh v Calder with my Davey Jnr goggles on. While his production is still on the lower end, the more I watch him the more I see the sentiments @THE_DON1 has been sharing over the past few years. If he had an elite U/18 tank, he would absolutely be in the discussion for the first handful of picks on draft night.

Now I’m not saying he’s anywhere near as good, but he’s like Ablett Jnr in that he’ll start as a small half forward, but the best use of his attributes is in the phone box that is the centre square. His movement, clean hands and decision making under pressure are elite. He’s got a hard edge too, willing to take heat to dispose effectively and doesn’t shirk the contest. Took a couple of contested marks too, which was something I hadn’t seen. When he does get clear space he’s a score involvement machine. Almost every disposal puts his team on the path to scoring. Sees the attacking side of the game so well.

And finally, he looks like he’s really starting to feel comfortable at the level. In this game you could tell he knew he could burn past everyone on the field, and basically did so at every chance. He was tempting opponents to come at him and then just waltzed through or past like they weren’t there.

Probably the last time we’ll see him for Oakleigh for a while, but it’s been a very exciting few weeks.

If - and it’s a big if to be fair - he can build a tank, he’s going to be a hell of a player.

Got to make sure he doesn’t go higher than the second round.

do go on

From the great man Declan Reeve at Rookie Me Central, he attended the game live

#33 Alwyn Davey Jnr

Although ending the day with 14 disposals, many would’ve walked away from the game thinking Davey won the most of the ball on the ground given his impact. Davey spent essentially the whole game on the ball and was damaging with every touch, particularly out of stoppages where he found releasing handball options well, drawing in opponents to relieve his targets of pressure. Davey had a couple of moments of pure brilliance when it came to getting around opponents, with a couple of candy sells and quick bursts to get away from an opponent on the mark, but the highlight without a doubt came as he played on from a free kick, took a couple of bounces running forward and hit a leading teammate perfectly.

@THE_DON1 sorry if you’ve mentioned this

His disposal numbers are clearly low for a full-time mid. Is that concerning at all, or can that be attributed to fitness?

20 disposals from Michael Long or Mark Mercuri was devasting to the opposition. Reckon Davey might be the same.

NT kids are always going to be a fair way behind the Victorian kids running wise so of course his fitness is the reason for the low possession count but it’s something that can be worked on in the coming years. I’m confident that he will put the work in as he has already done to get to this level of fitness and be a strong player and a starting midfielder in the best junior team in Australia.

That’s great to hear, what an exciting prospect

how can we watch the replay?

Less dispoals but more damaging I would take that every day of the week as opposed to racking up huge numbers all the time

We will have to start a rumour about his dodgy groins soon.

Could be a very high draft pick.
