Father Son Watch (2017 onwards)

Alijah Davey watch – Round 12 NTFL - Nightcliff Tigers vs Palmerson Magpies

Another quietish game, but in the 3rd and 4th quarters was much more involved pressuring, chasing etc. Palmerston led for 3&½ quarters but were pipped by a surging Nightcliff.
Looks like a kid a little out of his depth TBH, especially comparing Alwyn Jr playing in the same league at 16/17, but did a few classy things.
Cousin(?) Waylon Davey played in this game too - I think he is 16 and Alijah 15 - and is a lot chunkier than AD, and had a very interesting game giving away 3 50 metre penalties, and about 5 free kicks. Love watching NTFL!

Q1.
Most of the first 10 mins on the bench.
13 mins. Run-down at hbf after marking and taking on his man.

Q2.

2:30
Contested ground ball get forward pocket. Under pressure from two tigers players Davey gets a handball away but doesn’t find a target.

6:44
Juggles a mark over the line on the wing, under pressure. Probably should have taken that.

10:30
Good spoil on the wing

Q3.
50 seconds
Great tackle and then a second and third effort to apply pressure on the attacking side of the wing. Nightcliff ends up kicking OOTF.

1:30
Fumbles a pick up on the hff but then picks up and dances through a couple, getting a handball off to a teammate and also drawing a high tackle (advantage).

14:25
Good handball receive, skirts around a couple of nightcliff players and dishes off to a teammate.

14:39
Great gather of a loose bouncing ball under pressure on the attacking side of the square with Palmerston going forward, handballs off to a teammate and they go i50

20:35
Gets involved on the half back line, providing a contest to a tigers mark. Loose ball results and is cleared, goes the length of the ground and results in a goal.

23:40
No possession, but good running and active pressuring up and down the wing.

Q4.
20:40
Get and give handball on the hbf.

23min
Good gather and quick handball to a teammate who finds someone i50.

Yes Waylon is Russell‘s kid - Russell being Alwyn Jr’s twin bro, was/is president @ Palmerston.

How old is Koby Bewick now?

He will be in under 14s again this year

Future number 1 pick?

Bit early for that but kid has dominated junior football so far and not just because he is a bigger kid

Is the son of Darren Bewick really one of the bigger kids?

By the time his draft year comes around he’ll be 172cm and blitz will implode about whether we match a first round pick on him, or take another shot at that big-bodied midfielder everyone’s wanted for 20 years.

I was a ruck till under 14s and haven’t grown a mm since I was 13…

Has there ever been a 172 cm first rounder?

There will be this year…

Edit: Actually, technically, there probably won’t be, as Nick Watson is only 169cm.

Brandon Matera is the nearest i can think of, he’s 175cm and was a Gold Coast priority 17yo selection but probably would have been a first rounder in the actual draft.

(pick 12) Kysaiah Pickett 171 cm, is that close enough?

Seems highly unlikely teams blow a top five on a really short player. Understand Watson could undo this statement this year.

Nick Watson is the type of player I would see opposition clubs spewing they didn’t pick him up in the draft, short but an elite level talent

He’s certainly been rated in the top 3-5 coming through for a few years now. It will be interesting to see where he goes.
I’m height challenged, so I hope it doesn’t go against him.

Did I just hear Eddie Betts say Alijah Davey recently did an ACL?
