Father Son Watch (2017 onwards)

Almost everyone (except StK) loves F/S. Almost everyone (except the Northern Clubs and any club with a good one in a given year) hates NGA.

I hate that they get lumped together in discussions when the former is such a great part of the game and the latter was an attempt to muddy the waters to obfuscate the unfairness of the Northern Academies.

The system can be improved without throwing it in the bin.

Yep, should also install hoops at each end of the field, throw spirals and play on a diamond too

Why keep any vague resemblance of the traditions that make our game what it is (was)

Give me a ■■■■■■■ break, it’s a national football competition that pretends to be professional and equalised.

Who hopelessly compromise the team building that every team needs to do by moronic unfair and fluky access to talent.

Agree. And NGA talk should be in an NGA thread, not the EFC Father-Son Watch. (Not directed at you, just too much NGA in the FS thread).

The concern I have with this player is that his last name is too similar to ■■■■ to ever be taken seriously

Happy Friday Nino!!

Andrew walkers kid Cody Walker goes alright too.
Edit: he might be next years draft not this years.
2026. (Also Richmond NGA Prospect)
28 disp, 7 inside 50’s and 2 goals for Vic Country v vic city

Yep, there we go. Collingwood and Brisbane will keep cleaning up, and will have an uninterrupted cheap rebuild on the run because of this draft trickery.

Eh im not worried about f/s. problem i have is teams like Brisbane have acess to 2-3 guns every year via academys that are not f/s

They should scrap academies and f/s.

If a player wants to play for his dads team, he can ask to be traded there.

You’re pretty much on your own on this one.
The absolute majority of AFL fans and clubs want the F/S system to stay.
So, perhaps you should be the one to “suck it up”?

Because I bring logic into it? Yeah I can suck it up. I’ll happily watch Nick Daicos going 4th in a draft using cookie dough and left over staples. Great system, how can we double down? Maybe Brisbane should get paid in draft capital to have their father/sons.

No, because you are getting worked up about changing something that is not going to change, that is why you should suck it up.
Or don’t, either way, means nothing to me.

Father son is a great story and tradition, end of story. All clubs have the chance of winning. Your old man may have just got to 100 games, how cool is it that you get the chance to draft a youngen (and you don’t have to!) and them thrive. WTF take it away.

There seems more whingeing about father sons and academies this year than ever before and we haven’t even had the new system of paying fairer value start yet.

You don’t bring logic to it. What you raise in this post is bad logic. Because the issue you’re raising there isn’t the father-son rule but the price paid. And that is being modified, and many (most?) who support F/S have been critical of for years.

Thanks for that Dominic Toretto.

The fact is that the competition is not an even playing field whilst academies and f/s exist.
