Midfield type at this stage. Just a good footballer you could put anywhere in an U14s game (except ruck, you’d probably want a taller kid there, which Lloyd junior is not at this stage).

An opportunity for Essendon fans to have a look at their father-son prospect for 2027 Koby Bewick playing full time through the midfield and doing some impressive things for Calder. The highlight was how clean his hands were at stoppage and his ability to anticipate the right moment to dive in and scoop up the football, which led to him racking up 8 clearances for the game and is a strong foundation to build on when he adds more size and physicality to his game. His usually elite disposal was a bit wayward at times here, perhaps influenced by the more congested space and greater pressure in the midfield, something that’s likely to improve with experience.

The move into the midfield has produced another strong performance from bottom age Essendon father-son Koby Bewick who was one of the best on ground through three quarters before a bad corkie ended his afternoon. Bewick is a high damage per possession player, his pace, clean hands and slick skills all on show here. The undoubted highlights were his two long running goals from the 50 meter arc, something that’s becoming a feature of his game.

Question for those familiar with the ground… Is that a true 50, or under that?
I mean I’ve not measured it but it seems a big ground so I have no reason to think it is not 50 metres.

I’ve seen him kicks goals from the 50m lines on local ground since he was about 13, so zero questions over the penetration of his kicking.

Most local grounds aren’t actual 50s, hence the question (not sure about CTL).
But he certainly looks like he’s got amazing range with his kicking.
Without measuring to confirm, I am pretty confident think that all Coates grounds would meet specifications. The Calder ground is used a lot.

I’ve tried to kick from the 50m line on the Falcons ground here in Geelong. I can confirm it felt like 80m.

Essendon father-son Koby Bewick is another who’s ending the season strong after the bottom ager had the first half of his season limited by injury. The recent shift into the midfield seems to be doing Bewick’s confidence the world of good, and he’s showing what he might be capable of next year. He found a stack of the footy around the ground and used it pretty well with some really nice setup kicks into forward 50, although he did leave a few kicks short of the intended target. While his defensive actions still have significant room for improvement (zero effective tackles in this game) he does work hard to get back into defensive 50 to provide the outnumber.

ive been unsure who Koby reminds me of, John Noble.
Whether that is his ceiling or he can hit greater heights, who knows but geez its eerily similar
