Favourite Album For Each Year Of The 70s

1974: Glen Campbell - Reunion: The Songs of Jimmy Webb

Great partnership. And IMHO includes one of the great contemporary ballads.

Yeah it’s great.

Just realised I left out all of Big Stars albums. Argh!

If you guys are game you can check out Billy Joels first band, and their self titled 1970’s album Attilla.

Joels obviously disowned it but it’s like a kid doing Frankenstein by The Edgar Winter Group. Before its time.

Frankenstein was a great piece of music, very innovative and evocative, still sounds fresh and inventive.

l also like the Bare Trees - Fleetwood Mac choice. Danny Kirwan appeared to have a rare gift for melody around that time, coming up with some delightful tunes over 3 or so albums. Sadly his solo work was deplorable by comparison. Perhaps he just saved his best work for the band.

I knew when l did my list l had left out one album.
1974 - Out of the Storm - Jack Bruce. At times it is a bit sparse, but with the great Steve Hunter on guitar, the stripped back approach works just fine. Bruce got to play with more of the great guitarists than anyone else l can think of, Clapton, West, Moore, Trower, Hunter, and l am probably missing a couple.

Thanks for all the suggestions and memories, from best to worst I go for:

1971 Sticky Fingers
1973 Goat’s Head Soup
1970 Bridge Over Troubled Water
1975 Blood on the Tracks
1978 The Kick Inside
1972 Ziggy Stardust
1974 Living in the 70s
1976 Hotel California
1979 Slow Train Coming
1977 Heroes
