That thought has crossed my mind. Not so much because Essendon has been no good but it’s a fk load cheaper to follow than AFL.
Games are streamed free, and it’s what, $10 tops for entry if you want to attend. Membership for non-AFL aligned VFL clubs are (last time I checked) $100 or something.

What an incredibly boring Grand Final lineup. Neither side has any likeable players, in fact it’s the opposite. we’ll get to watch a bunch of outright tools line up.
It’s legitimately hard to get on board and support either side. I’ll probably barrack against the lions & joe, but the idea of cheering for Papley legit makes me through up.

I used to know Bill Stephen’s wife. She was so excited after the 2001 Premiership and getting to attend the post match celebrations. She later told me they didn’t want to know her and she pretty much sat in a corner with Bill.
