For those not in Victoria, Fiskville has been the Country Fire Authority’s primary training base since 1971. Many current and former members of the CFA have trained there, including me.
When it was discovered that cancerous chemicals were found on site and that former members, headed by former Chief Officer, Brian Potter either died or are close to death due to prolonged exposure to these chemicals, then the writing was on the wall for the site.
The recent discovery of these chemicals now present in the drinking water has resulted in the immediate closing down of the facility just yesterday afternoon. There are also widespread concerns throughout Fiskville and nearby Ballan in terms of local water supplies.
I suspect there will be more to come from this…and I just hope that nothing else suspicious is found, but, I have my doubts about that.
