Just watching the Anzac Day game from 2013 and it’s making me wonder what went wrong for Jackson Merrett. He was great that year. But since then it’s been steadily downhill. What went wrong???
So due to a computer bork, I had to go get all last years VFL games again, and while I did, I put together a link list for the whole season to email to my Brother and others, so they could watch at will rather than me putting all mine on a data stick for him.

I know some on here talk about Diick being the greatest coach in our history, but that is a deplorable win/loss ratio in the one game of the year that really matters.
Sheeds got 4 out of 7, with a couple of heartbreakers in the PF’s, so you reckon a 50% win/loss in the GF is the pass mark. But 33% is woeful.
Mind you, Leigh Matthews 4 out of 5 ain’t bad either - prick

Finally finished watching this 93 Fosters Cup GF - I thoroughly recommend it. This match typifies almost my entire early memories of Essendon when I started following in earnest in the early 90’s. What is amazing to look back on is how seriously this whole pre-season caper was taken back then - commentators, players and a 75,000 strong crowd all attest.
Some highlights:
- Long, and Wanganeen emerging as stars of the game
- A young Misiti and Mercuri showing their early skill and footy intelligence
- James Hird juggling and controlling the football with class and poise (albeit with an atrocious goal-kicking routine to boot.
- Paul Hills (ok he didn’t do much and I must admit I loved him in 93’ and rated him higher than Hird initially!)
*Cameos by Cransberg (always loved this bloke and thought he could play)
*Somerville was always average - constantly misses marks - Alessio looks 6 X the player even at 20 years of age. - Some of our all time greats at the peak of their powers - Harvey, Thompson, O’Donnell and Bewick.
What also stood out to me was that this game exhibited some of the future opposition players who seemed to always play well against us - Knights, Naish, Maxfield -and they all had a decade of playing well against Essendon ahead of them!!
An amazing time capsule game with many portents of the future - the most clear was the absolute blend of experience and talented youth coming through which would lead us to the premiership later in the year.
Pardon my ignorance but where does one find this?
I’d love to watch these games.

Two of the GF losses were consecutive years in which the Bombers had nearly twice as many scoring shots as the opposition (FCFC, then Melb) for a 1 pt loss & a draw (losing the replay).
Then the dodgy Coleman suspension (thanks to a FCFC stooge) in '51 that saw him miss the finals & they again lost the GF narrowly.
With a bit of luck, he could have had 7 - big difference.
Imagine having to live through those years as a Bombers’ supporter!!
Blitz would have been going right off.
