I’m inclined to agree with you. My caveat would be Wright came to us with a reputation for being a one dimensional fairly soft forward and I think he is a totally different forward now than he was at GC. I’m kinda hoping the same happens for Sam. He has the size; he just needs to find that aggression/desperation.
I had a strong dislike for Clarke to the point I said he was the worst player to every put on an Essendon jumper. Weid is now at that level.
Are we talking about the same Weideman? Had he converted the (few) opportunities he’s created, people may not be talking about him as disdainfully as they currently are. He’s missed them from 15m out directly in front. He has not been in any way accurate.
Nah, not even close. Weid not going so well, but I reckon we could name 10 worse players.
There probably are others, but these two stand out to me.
Poor guy has some demons (pardon the pun) in his head, I feel. He just let his whole footy world fall out from beneath him after missing a few shots vs Richmond. He was tracking ok up until that point. But since then…
Tim Darcy says hi… 14 of the most spectacularly ordinary games you’d ever want to see. I’d love to see a breakdown of how many goals his direct opponent kicked. Teams played through his man at every available opportunity.
Hes gotta be dropped. no goals in 7 weeks has got to be the worst return for a forward in the league . there’s no way you can keep defending his selection with that.
LOL in 14 games he played in 11 wins, 2 Draws and 1 loss. He even kicked 5 goals that year, but I thought he was a full back?
Really? Christ… I do not remember that. He was probably moved away from the back-line because he was going so poorly. Yeah, he was a full-back. One of Sheedy’s more hair-brained recruitments - let’s get a cooked 6’1" full-back right at the end of his career…
On that point…
I’m was talking about Hunter and the fact that’s a shame he’s injured because he’s the player we need
He isn’t naive to think football fans aren’t going to question a players performance; he’s disgusted that personal attacks are evident, irrespective of whether your personal experiences have been exposed to them or not.
I don’t care if people love or hate the kid, but nobody should have to tolerate that level of bullshit in their job, irespective of what it is or what they’re paid.
I thought he was more than an acceptable placeholder at the time.
Ah, OK - fair enough, my mistake. And yes, in that case you’re probably right.
It never made sense to me then, and I’m no closer to understanding it now.
I get that Fletcher needed more support and big bodies in the backline - that much I do acknowledge. Why go and get someone who was pretty much done and, at 6’1", was no more equipped to take the big bulls than David Flood (6’2") was?
We have him for another year and a bit…he has had six years at the dees and got no where as a forward…may as well stick him in the VFL and try him in another position
He had 5 set shots at goal in a half, against a team we had not defeated in 9 years with Premiership defenders.
How can he be that mentally fragile ?
Only 1 of the misses in the 2nd qtr was a gimme !
I think the inference might be it cascaded from that. The set shot kicking was the first loss of confidence, and it’s progressed across his entire game.
I don’t think Weid is a world beater but he’s much, much better than what he is currently producing.
Melbourne found a way to drop Grundy, surely we can find a way to drop Weideman.
