Former #17 James Stewart

Mr. Smith Goes to Tullamarine.

Thanks for your service Shaun McKernan.

We need to address our KPF “issue” so apart from robbing peter to pay paul and shifting Hooker or making do with someone else who might fill the void, how is grabbing a young tall who has been in the system for a few years and actually played KPF a bad option? He should come relatively cheap as well.
What are our other options? Draft a KPF and wait for 3-5 years for them to hit their straps?
He might not be Matty Lloyd but he’s not the worst option either.
It’s not like grabbing a “Koby Stevens” type player either because Stewart potentially addresses a deficiency.

I’m claiming this one. Come at me!

48 Goals in 18 games does not read to bad and ended the year well with 33 Goals and 6 behinds in last 10 games. Worth a crack if cheap

In what comp? That accuracy is a sight for sore eyes.

NEAFL

But that is pointless because accurate is accurate in any league.

Forward or back

Ruck!!

That goes with saying though. We have 44 potential ruckmen on our list, ready to go at a moment’s notice

HELL YEAH

The best KPF on the market who’s reputation on here will now grow to insurmountable levels until he plays a game and he will then be forever compared to whoever gets taken with the pick we traded to get him…you know, that bloke.

Lets hope he is a late bloomer like Podsiadly and…and…

We’d be giving up nothing, 4th or 5th round pick. PSD threat. Welcome to the club, hope you prove me wrong.

Lets hope he is a late bloomer like Podsiadly and...and...

That’s ok. We’ll just pension him off as a firey.

Big lad, was described as moving like an onballer with the height of a ruckman - granted that’s the trotted line these days - had glandular 2015 pre season, back issues and related hamstrings after that. Hasn’t been able to develop concurrently with the other GWS bigs, but a bag of 8 v Lions NEAFL late in the year after a full season says he can clunk and kick and may b past the worst of it. Mobile forward/ruck depth ahead of Gach

James Stewart played 18 games in 2016 for 18 goals. Not sure where the 33 goals in the last 10 games comes from!? Was that in their reserves 2015 because the numbers just don’t add up!?

Sorry, just checked again. My bad. 1 game in 2016. Need my glasses

Knightmare's 2012 draft review of Stewart is hardly encouraging. Had him picked at #62, he went to GWS at #27

#62 Adelaide – James Stewart (VIC – KPF/KPD)
Height: 197cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 04/03/1994
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style: Jack Watts
Player comparison: Corey Gault
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Potential Collingwood Father Son selection who Collingwood elected not to take. Stewart is a long term prospect who still physically has a long way to go. Has played most of his footy either as a key forward or on a wing to this stage but also looks very capable as a key defender and to be honest this is where I see him making a position his at AFL level. Stewart as a key forward often looks lost not knowing where to run, often standing around and just doesn’t influence games enough mostly playing as a tallish flanker, certainly doesn’t scream “focal point key forward” at this early stage and if he is to make it as a key forward it would be on the basis of superior work rate and his work at ground level. Down back on the other hand Stewart looks a lot more natural with his ability to read the ball down back, mark strongly and kick accurately to a target down the field. Intuitively he seems to know when he can leave his opponent and looks a class above down back which is interesting for someone who has played mostly as a key forward/wing as a junior. Skill level is excellent for a key position player and by foot is particularly good – duel sided, can find targets over a range of distances and his long kicking in particular is excellent, but at times the consistency has been lacking by foot despite his good kicking action. Stewart is very clean for a tall lad below the knees and can easily pick the ball up cleanly without any difficulty. When he has ball is hand shows great poise and can easily spin out of tackles, never really looking phased when pressured. Athleticism impressive and for someone at his height and is incredibly mobile for a tall. Willing tackler and will give those 2nd and 3rd efforts. What impresses me is his ability to read the play and read the ball in the air, it’s a real feature of his game. Strong mark overhead but I don’t see him ever developing into a dominant contested marking presence which makes me favour him as a defender even with the knowledge that the Collingwood key defence group is far superior to that of the key forward group.

duel sided and not phased.
