Former #19 Nick Hind

So here is my question to you ….
Why do you think Brad isn’t keeping him in the Team.

He obviously thinks Kelly is a better option this week, don’t you think Brad will ever play him again ?

Mcgrath, Redman, Heppell and Kelly are ahead of him, if any of them are injured hes likely straight back in.

You can never say never, but I think there is a strong possibility that he will be phased out, and in the absence of injuries, stays out.

At some point soon I think Tsatas at HB, if for nothing more than to give him a look would be worth the experiment.

From that point there is no looking back.

And when will Heppell be phased out ?

The end of next year’s GF.

No we don’t !

Nicks been a solid contributor this season. his speed and dare is what has made him stand out for most of his career. He still brings that. but hes always been a defensive liability and can be a poor decision maker with ball in hand. thats fine. he is good depth, and thats good to have on your list. i think hes an ideal sub for us with Kelly back.

He’ll be SUB you’d reckon.
Im surprised he’s an OUT of the 22 though.

Kelly would want to play well.

If BDB pulls a late change and inserts Bryan into the 22 then surely it’d be either Kelly or Snelling drops to sub. But I’d rather Hind sub either way.

Nick has been OK these last few games. Stats were decent and iirc wasn’t a liability at all against FC. A settled back 6/7 is always a good thing imao.

Yes we do. I find Kelly makes the backline play it safe. Ridley without Kelly takes more chances. With Kelly he chips if 15m sideways to Kelly. Hind generates run, Kelly is a good stopper.

Kelly is a freaking ball around our neck offensively, same with Lav

The trade off here it seems is Kelly does the stopper role and allows McGrath to attack

Vs McGrath stopping and Hind attacking

Coaches preferring the former and you couldn’t argue with that. Outside of does make us slower in defence and stifles some our ball movement.

Hind should be sub. Pace is destructive late in game and he can slot in either fwd or back as required.

We will be looking like a decent team when both Hind and Kelly are depth only. Not that the two are directly comparable in their roles, they just happen to play in the same area of the ground. That means Tsatas needs to come in to replace one of them. As for the other? Nominations are now open. Then there is the separate issue of Heppell.

We don’t have the players on the list currently to phase them out.
I mean we could recruit McKay or Reid could have a injury free year that fills one hole and allows LAV/Ridley to play a bit smaller.

b: McGrath Reid Zerk-Thatcher
hb: Redman Ridley Cox
int: Laverde
other options: Tsatas/ Davey

I’m not sold that Tsatas will be introduced at half back think more likely Wing, maybe Alwyn will play half back?

Being dropped again sends a message

Theres pressure for spots and although his discipline has improved, he is a risk taker, whose risky plays make him one of the most turnover prone players in the side. On the other hand the delays caused by Kelly just increase the chance of turnovers downfield by a kick I think Kelly is better one on one defender, i agree with Jack. Probably the 2 weakest players in the side, but who do we have to play those roles?

Yet Kelly averages more score launches and score involvements than the “attacking” hind this year.

I think some people are far too stuck in thinking of Kelly of a couple of years ago.

He’s been far better with the ball and quicker with his decision making this year. He’s also someone that always run hard to make himself an option coming out of defence.

Kelly was better with his positioning as an option coming out of D50 at the start of this season. I even commented on this in the Hawks game day thread.

But stats can be deceiving also, a sideways kick in the back 50 can be classed as a score launch. I wouldn’t say its dangerous or attacking in anyway, if that player was able to hit an agressive kick off the bat defences have less time to react and predict the path forward.

To be a true contender though I think the mix of Kelly and Lav in the same backline with BZT is to many players limited by foot.
Someone like Baldwin to take over from Jayden and provide a creative kick is needed.
