It came from the conversation about Draper potential compo, think it was Corners and Issac Smith that said we wouldn’t/ shouldn’t get band one and Harley plans on stopping these scenarios when he comes in.

He wants to stay but its his biggest contract of his life to consider. We wont go up. He may get $500k more over 5 years at Lions. Decision will be made on his life with his partner and setting himself up for future while enjoying his footy. If we matched Lions bid (5 years gauranteed with $100k more) i suspect decision would have been made already and he is a Bomber. Thats how it works

True, but can you trust him to get on the park to play 100 games over the 5 years? I wouldn’t given his history and neither does it sound like the club trusts him either.

He has played 78 games since being drafted in 2016 at this rate he would have to play until 2040 to get another 100 games out of him

Question. What are the chances he will fail to fully recover from achilles rupture? 1 in 5 apparently fail to get back to the previous level of performance. We are not dealing with an 80kg basketballer but a 110 kg behemoth. OK, so clearly, Brisbane’s high performance people can fix any player, whereas we have a proven record of failure around soft tissue injuries, its more of a risk to keep him than let him go, but fans are not party to any special conditions in either of the offered contracts.

Just because we have space, it’s not a reason alone to match. If club feel he’s a risk committing further $ then let him go. We have cap flexibility now but there’s a time we won’t and the more over pays we do in the meantime brings that time closer. It’s really hard / impossible as an outsider to make a call on that sort of stuff though because we have no idea on our overall cap situation.

Love your work GT2 but on this one I disagree.

We already have one of the biggest salary caps in the comp & McKay will drop down to 500K/year from 2027 onwards, we only have one more year of Gresham on 700K, Shiel is otw out (maybe a Parish/Tsatas/Hobbs etc as well) and the cap will continue to keep rising each year.

We can easily still afford to re-sign Draper (front-ending his contract, like we’ve been doing with others), along with anyone else coming out of contract over the next few years, and still chase some big fishies.

No idea, there wouldn’t be that many with exact specifics because even the journos are guessing at times. If you read Willie ■■■■■ posts it sounds like the club are getting desperate to try and keep him, not that it fits the narratives being thrown around
