Former #2 Big Sammy Draper

But also not very good.

Because we low balled him to begin with because we didn’t really rate him or value him (which was bang on). Then when Brisbane put a nice tasty offer in front of him we realised “■■■■ if we raise our offer a bit and force Brisbane to raise theirs a bit more we might get lucky and nab a band 1 or even band 2 compensation for this giant bell end!” We did that a few more times and even the Crows got involved and Draper finally realised that Essendon think they’ll be fine without him; in fact Essendon can’t wait to be rid of his clownery; all the messages of love and brotherhood were a smokescreen. He realised that all Essendon really need from a ruck is for them to be able to just, like, be a ruck! And now he will be able to drink Tradie beer with all of his bogan mates in country Queensland just like his ads.

I’ll be filthy if he does a 180 and stays at the club.

His retention is/was a priority to vozzo’s list strategy.

The negotiation has not gone well and saw Vozzo become more involved albeit he is driving things largely.

Yep we dont see behind the curtain. Having said that, he has stated all along, as highlighted by nino, that he loves the club, players, and forever grateful. Time will tell

Last time I checked Rosa was in charge of List Strategy not Vozzo. The negotiation has not gone well because we low-balled to begin with and Draper’s pride took a hit. So his management went looking for love elsewhere and found it in Queensland. You’d have to be blind Freddy to offer a player with Draper’s injury history and form history overs to stay so the offer presented was probably fair. You know what I think? I think Brad probably went to Vozzo and asked him to get involved because he wants to run with 2 rucks and if Draper leaves he’s going to be scratching his arse trying to work on a new gameplan which involves 1 ruckman only (until Bryan comes back).

How do you feel about the Jones 2 year extension? Do you like the way we did that? Give a broken player a 2 year deal. You’re advocating for doing the same for a ruckman who ruptured his achilles! I don’t care how much he professes to love the club or how the club have betrayed him…he targeted this pre-season to get fit precisely because it was contract time! Sums him up and sums up his professionalism.

Oh! And I’ll add something here as well. I’ve no doubt he loves his team mates and they love him. So did I when I played back in the day. But I hated playing with some of them and I’d have picked them last to play with coz they were lazy and ■■■■!! But I loved going out with them on Friday and Saturday night!

Rosa is in title and is learning the ropes, Vozzo is running the show.

I’m Very aware how poorly the negotiation has been held.

who cares? hes demonstrated an ability to not elevate us to where we need to go, superb athlete, decent tap, great at the odd magic moment to turn a game, wish him well and band 1 compo for us.

time for the club to grow up and start making quick and decisive decisions.

also its probably brad

You were closely involved?

None if this would have happened if Dodoro was still here…

Okay. Would you share some specifics then?

We have had 3-4 bites at the cherry upping offers and the ceo has had to get very involved in the negotiation - it’s been very reactive. Your summary is not far off.

And it looks like it will be to no avail.

Depends on where you stand on Draper’s worth.

True depends on such side of the fence you sit.

Everyone is entitled to their view.

There’s no tv ratings for draft night

Just tell us you’re leaving Sam. Surely the club, and the supporters, are owed a straight answer at least?

Oh yes. They hate us alright.

We are terrible, our injury management is terrible, the coach is questionable and the teams he is entertaining have stable environments, little ruck competition with established KPFs, they have beloved coaches, and are looking like finals teams for the remainder of his career.

Why’s the CEO driving the list strategy?

Draper heading to Brisbane will have the dual benefit of improving the average iq of both Victoria and Queensland
