Former #2 Big Sammy Draper

Yep. Today they would be trading him as a preagent or resigning him a year out from free agency being due.

Thats what’s going to happen with Tassie coming ins. Less and less players are going to actually come to the end of their contracts. Unless the potential compo from Tasmania poaching them(all out of contract players will be free agents to the Devils) is greater than a trade.

I wonder if he’s actually upset that we didn’t want to keep him.

Nobody is saying he should have been automatically paid in the top 10 at the club. They’re saying he should have been in his last year of contract. And that if other contracts were negotiated which pushed him out for 2025, he should have been given more money for 2025 to put him back in.

What if we offered the Lions a substantial salary cap relief for a 3rd round pick? The pick would be helpful for NGA bids and the money would go to up Draper’s contract. Is that legal?

It’s a minor thing, but they won’t get better compo than us.
The WC priority pick comes after Band 2 compo

The more I think about the more it makes complete sense for both parties.

Whether he deserved it or not, he was a top 25% paid player, and we chose to push him out of that bracket in the exact moment of consequence

They’d need to actually have a bloke they want to dump.

Outside of maybe Doedee I can’t really think of many. And he’d have to want to leave…

Lions have zero need to offer Draper more money. He’s already agreed to their terms.

Does it need to involve a player. Can’t it be a 4th and 300k for a 3rd?

Yes, pick purchasing is not a thing yet.

I feel there’s a sizable number of folks who don’t understand that Band 1 for one club being different to Band 1 for another club (based on ladder position of course) is a feature, not a bug.

It’s not simply getting pick x for player x, and being happy or not accordingly. The fact that it’s Draper, or Allen, means fk all.

Seems to be even more of a sizable number that think compensation should be based on how good they personally think the player is.

Case in point.

8 years to turn a rookie pick into a first round draft pick? Sounds like solid investment to me.

if it happens Jenkins needs to post a video

Ehhhh. Solid investment, yes.
Screwed the sale, though.

Surprised we didn’t lose them tbh.

He won’t ever be a star.
