I like the intensity, and effort that Francis has brought this preseason. It’s a credit to him.

But this kid has natural forward written all over him. It’s going to be really hard to keep him out of the side.

Anyone else notice how short Baldwin’s neck is? From behind, looks like he doesn’t have a neck. And by extension, his reach etc is probably comparable to someone at 195

They big boy has a proper photo on the club website now:

That picture above doesn’t indicate he’s got a short neck. Probably better not to compare him to McKernan.

I went to Swinburne at the same time as Robin Close, Carl Ditterich and Gary Colling. The last time l saw Robin Close was in Albury around 1982, he was playing FF for a team up there and had lost none of his skills. He might have even been captain-coach at the time.

I played against Robin Close in 1968. He was playing for Ringwood High and I was playing for Upwey High. I was 15cm shorter and he was my direct opponent in the Centre. As a keen Bombers supporter I was rapped to play on him and see him close up. He kicked 10 goals and I kicked 1. It was a massacre. Best one I ever had!

Robin Close was a school teacher at my School and also coached my jnr footy team… I had no idea he was such a good player for Essendon. I was 13

Amazing ! I played for Upwey High against Gary Colling and that would have been 68 I think !

68 was my last year at Upwey High. I was a Prefect and a House Captain (Blue) and vc of the Cricket Team. Had the nickname “Brother”. The 68 Lyrics has a picture of our footy team.
