Former #26 Kaine Baldwin

If every single tall we’ve drafted in the last two years becomes a good AFL player then we’ll face the nightmare scenario of having 2-3 good players in important positions to trade. Given the strike rate across the league with tall forwards in particular, the more likely scenario is we end up with maybe one good tall forward out of the lot, and are looking for a backup in 4-5 years.

Something tells me for the next few years we willl only be going after mids & smalls.

We now have Draper, Jones, McBride, Bryan, Cox, Reid, Brand, Eyre & now Baldwin as young developing key position players.

That glass isn’t half empty, it’s been nuked.

How is having excess talls that have come good a bad thing? Trade them to address deficiencies elsewhere.

You missed Walla, cause clearly, no one at the club has realised he’s 5ft nothing.

He was elite under age. Two successive ACL means it will take another 6 months to get any form of contest work. From injury point of view not a bad time to assess the potential. He is probably 12 months after 2nd Reconstruction.
The risk is worth given the ceiling of this young man.

i love walla but his best work is a bit more up the field on a flank. We still need a front and square pacey small, losing Mossie for a year really hurts.

Welcome! Hopefully he makes a full recovery - looks like a serious talent. Loves that he’s a contested marking, aggro type - we definitely need more of those.

Full of drugs ??

I meant in the list of tall fwds for CH’s meme.

Watching or following the VFL will be an interesting experience this year.

There would be barely a handful of smalls (especially mids) each week to follow who would be pressing their claims to play in the firsts.

And how they juggle all the talls in the seconds will be interesting. I guess with Hurley out and big question marks on Ambrose’s foot allowing him to play, they won’t all be there each week.

He has some brothers we should be looking at too:

It’s not a bad thing at all. I intended “nightmare scenario” sarcastically. If you’re going to have good players who are excess to requirements, they might as well be a type of player other teams will actually pay for. I’d definitely prefer having too many competent tall forwards on the list than spend another decade trying to turn tall defenders into not very good forwards.

Welcome to EFC!
You are a part of full rebuild.

Could be the best long term recruitment decision the club ever makes. Just flood the best 22 with Baldwins and get them all act up for the frees.

Great chance for some young talls to develop synergy in VFL, last year for Hooker, potentially Ambrose and also Hurley. Spots up for grabs. Looking forward to it
