If itâs a choice between Francis or Baldwin to play up forward Round 1, Iâm taking Baldwin. He knows how to play the position, presents well, competes hard. He may be raw, but itâs a damn sight better than someone who flies at unrealistic marking attempts and doesnât do the basic fundamental of just providing a contest and a point of reference for ground level players to get around. Baldwin showed more than 2MP and Frang combined.

Smooth is absolutely spot on.
Funny he wears the number 26 as he looks to have similar traits to tom Hawkins.
Big bruising body, not overly quick, doesnât jump high off the ground, good kick, footy smarts.

Showed some promise today but if you canât make the distance from 50 thatâs a concern for a forward of heâs type hoping itâs just a confidence issue

It was 1 kick.
Harry Jones kicked 0.4 in his first game then went on a massive hot streak.
Im sure Kane can regularly kick 50.

It took Tom Hawkins 5 years to become a good Kpp in the AFL. And he was playing in the best team, with the most dominant midfield/backline feeding him for those first 5 years.

He had the same number of touches and fewer shots for goal than Baldwin despite playing the whole game and Baldwin playing a quarter?
Jake Kelly also had fewer shots for goal than Baldwin.

It was really exciting to see Baldwin out there and handle himself far better than you would expect as arguably our best key forward for the day on limited minutes. He is a very natural key forward and this is no slight on Jones but I feel Baldwin could be our best key forward in the future if he gets a clean run at it and we will see soon why he was rated a top 10 prospect before the ACLâs

The Don, do you think IF Baldwin plays round 1 and Stringer misses, then Francis could play HFF? with Jones, Wright, Baldwin?
He could also help out mop up in defence like he did in the last quarter.
Out of interest - how was Baldwin tracking comparatively to Thilthorpe throughout 16s/17s?

Interesting take. Francis hit the packs hard and was enthusiastic, but pretty average TBH.
Iâm not saying Baldwin was better, but âwithin a bulls roarâ is nonsense.
