I think there is more to this story than has been reported.
Another Redman, sooked it up as asked to play accountable role
Kelly should never be involved in link play. With his inability to play in and his poor kicking he just brings everything to a halt and allows the opposition to flood back putting more pressure on our already sub par forward line.
We need to move past a bloke like this if we are going to be any good. Iām all for ripping the band aid off and cutting him now.
He is a very limited player in terms of what he can do and bring to the team. We need to move past him asap. He would be valuable for the VFL team where his slow but steady style of play isnāt such a handbrake on ball movement and forward momentum.
The problem is heās the only player who tries to get open. Every other player just jogs towards goal with their heads down or just stands still.
We should move past Kelly ASAP, but we also need to move past a lot of players ASAP. A real ā ā ā ā sandwich we have here.
Wasted another year playing a plodder down back.
Don you not think thatās the opposition not caring if he gets the ball when in fact he actually helps them get behind the ballā¦
Teams
Used to the with hooker let them kick it to hooker from the kick in then press up
I know people who played at top level and were coached this way even myself was coached this way
Give to the players who wonāt hurt you they arenāt a threat
please delist
Said the same thing at the game. Kelly, Laverde and to extent McKay, oppo teams do not pressure. They fold back knowing that eventually one of their kicks will miss the mark and then they pounce. McGrath oppo teams will pressure him knowing the same thing will happen. We turn it over ad nauseum and most oppo teams have worked out who they need to pressure and who they can zone off on.
Without wanting to make it personal, what we do with Jake Kelly is the #1 litmus test for Brad in the offseason.
Out of contract. And he (+Stringer) is the exact type of player that we should be moving past. But he runs around a lot and probably eats a balanced diet so he is seemingly one of Bradās favs.
Those sprint stats though
remember when we had massimo delivering darts from defence, or Saad, McKenna or Hind running the ball out.
Its a joke we have had Heppell, Kelly, laverde for the majority of the year in defence
Not helped by the lack of availability of Reid and Ridley.
This walking turnover playing instead of AA 21 year old wingman is the essence of Brad Scott.
What is the point of him? He doesnāt defend, he canāt kick, poor decision maker, plus heās nearing 30. Like what do we gain from playing him over a kid? Beggers belief, wasting games on this D grade plodder.
Time to move him on.
Keep playing him Brad, only a season left in your coaching tenure.
We must owe Kelly a debt of gratitude
Obviously needs to go. But itās not through lack of effort. I think heās giving everything he has. Itās lack of skills.
I reckon his disposal is more reliable than our other defenders.
