Former #29 Jye Menzie - thru 2025

Good on him, always seemed a ripping guy.

Don’t think he’ll ever be good enough for afl though.

I have a feeling that’s right, but if he keeps these performances up someone will give him another shot at it. I’ve watched a number of the Tassie games and he has been exceptional.

Ben Hobbs is averaging 29 touches, 8 clearances and 5 tackles a game in the VFL. Does this mean we should have kept him too?

It wasn’t that at all…
Most of the discussion was which should be prioritised, ADJ or Menzie. And in the end, both were taken off the list.

With Menzie, he had plenty of opportunities. At training, I’d watch him kick so well at goal. Kick close to 80% of the shots he takes. Switch it to gameday, in front of a crowd and with a bit of pressure and that percentage flipped.

Unfortunately, he just wasn’t good enough to get through his gameday demons.
He might find himself picked up again because he’s fine at lower levels and even has the running capacity to run up and down the field and get involved in play as well as kick goals. Whether that translates to AFL is another matter. Good luck to him though.

Isn’t he positioning himself for a spot on the Tassie list in 28.

I liked Menzie but he struggled as soon as he was expected to perform. He may fair better for a smaller club that isn’t under the microscope.

We all know our development of players is rubbish.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone if players that leave this club play better in a different environment.

Good on him, and I really hope he doubles down on making the Tassie opportunity work for him.

He’s the Toby Green of the VFL.

Those look like midfielder’s stats. We all know Hobbs was born to play on a half forward flank.

There were about 8 very gettable set shots in his last few games, all missed, and each were nails in his career coffin… I really wanted him to get them…

Maybe he’s determined enough to make it back the long way - and next time he’ll kick those goals.

The whole idea of him going there was to get on Tassies initial list

I was talking about cutting Jones 3 years ago and people were pilling on me back then.

This was the turning point for me too. I was backing him not stop but then he kept missing those gettable goals and I had to give in. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that he was a hard nut and would give his all.
