Former #3 Scott Gumbletron

I really wanted him to stay, but I can understand his decision.

When Daniher walked in the door, it was always going to be difficult for Gumbleton. Fitting Daniher, Gumbleton and a resting ruck into the one forward line was never going to practical. My preference was to trade Ryder or Belly for a top five pick or someone like Dylan Shiel, and use Gumbleton and Daniher as the relief ruckman.

I will never, ever, understand these sorts of statements. This really is the silly season isn't it?!

Why anyone would consder trading either of these two is beyond me. They are both required players, best 22.

They are both moving into their prime years: it was clear this season that Thomas Bellchambers has taken the next step as a ruckman-forward, and Ryder has improved his output year-on-year.

Anyone with two working eyes and ears knows that talls take their time to mature - so why would you give away all those years of preparation to some other club, and basically give them a leg up to a premiership window. WE, Essendon, need them on OUR list to be a premiership contender.

Bellchambers has got to be one the best-value PSD picks in that particular draft's history - why would we give up the added advantage we gained with that pick? (especially as some of our first-round national draft picks have turned out to be far less valuable).

Plus, there are very few decent rucks around at the moment. This is clearly evidenced by the fact that Jolly is being seriously talked about for a 4th club; Jesse White is talked up as having part-time ruck potential etc etc.

Why would we do it? A ■■■■■■ ludicrous suggestion, frankly.

Why? Because structurally I think teams are better off with one specialist ruckman, and one or two forwards who can pinch hit. And having an elite player like Shiel or whoever is available at the top of the draft would be ■■■■■■ handy. How many games can you name when both Ryder and Bellchambers have fired?

I would have done the same. Shiel would have topped off our midfield. I am yet to be convinced that Gumby and T-bell will ever work as a team.

Do you mean Ryder and Bellchambers?

Yeah he does

Well Gumby’s getting alotta love. I’m against the grain here. Potential and hope ran out years ago for me. He might be a nice guy and that’s great. He might have put Essendon first in the past and that’s admirable. But he’s never done anything in like 7 years! And in those blue moon moments when “fit and healthy” doesn’t look anywhere near it.

Happy to be proved wrong but glad the man bearing the injury card is gone. Don’t mean that in a harsh way, purely from what he’s delivered on field.

do you do private consultations or is it mostly group therapy?

yes.but only for a player, not for a draft pick.

Does this mean Al_fc now posts on the Freo boards?

Seriously, I wish Gumby all the best. He's my son's favourite since we went to the Port game last year where Gumb performed. Horrible injuries meant we never saw the best of him, but the glimpses were as good a demonstration of potential as I have ever seen.

Can't say it would make me sad to see him do well at Freo.

I wish him luck.  He hasn't had much for quite a while.

very sad to see gumby go! has been my favourite player since he joined the club!

best of luck to him i hope he can extend his career!

Geee it must be tough having your favourite play 35 games and miss 120 or so games.

very tough! but stuck by him the whole way!!!

Break a leg Gumby!

Break a leg Gumby!

Gumby will go alright on the big ground.

Fair thee well, Gumbles.

Ah, the guy who couldn't take a contested mark. lol.

This was clearly his best season, I finally thought he was ready to claim his permanent senior position. All the best Gumby, just not against us.

I hope he tears it up at Freo.

I really wanted to keep Gumby.
I was speaking about this with a mate of mine yesterday. We should of made offered a better deal with the Dogs.

Gumby/Crameri - pick 26/JJ

Carlisle/Crameri - pick 4 + pick 26 (keep Gumby)

I know a lot of people will be against losing Carlisle (he is a gun) but if this meant we could get pick 4 and keep Gumby, I would consider it.

We lost Gumby for nothing. it was such a waste for us.

Not sure about that. Even when he played seniors, he seemed to really struggle getting up the ground then doubling back. Was huffing and puffing alot and looked to be tiring by 3/4 time in alot of games.

Carlisle is worth more than pick 4, so I would say that we got a better deal than what you're suggesting.
