it’s possible that they are making hard decisions but still not being honest with itself.
Is this influenced by the rule that means the club can only use the quantity of draft picks when matching a bid that match the number of list spots open?
Either way, it seems like Rosa is clearing as many spots on the list as possible in the current contract situation to give himself options to reshape the list. I suspect that Jayden shows enough to justify another year, but Rosa might be sacrificing that upside in order to speed up his plans.
Personally disappointed to be clear. I hope he trains on like Baldwin and that this isn’t the end of the story.
The problem is that this is not a hard decision.
A hard decision would be, for example, trading Parish because he underperforms and is surplus to needs. This would also send a message to our soft, comfortable players that nobody is untouchable.
Trade McGrath. We’re going nowhere with a vice captain who gains more metres vertically than horizontally with his kicking.
Cutting a project player after 18 games coming off a knee isn’t a hard decision. It’s a shortsighted and stupid one.
Absolutely agree. Hard decisions are those you believe are right but may be unpopular. They are not designed to win pats on the back, to satisfy coteries or seek validation, but to make the club competitive and a better place.
You could argue on that definition that this is a hard decision. But agree with the premise, trading a Parish type is much harder.
Hopefully the penny drops for him. Put the work in and maybe get 2nd chance.
The USUAL CREW aren’t the same anymore since it’s CEI left the building.
….and thats an ‘ I ‘ for imbecile.
I assume you’re referring to his goal kicking? Caddy’s field kicking is excellent. It’s a stretch to say his goal kicking is horrific.
I wonder how the kicking of Tsatas would be described if Caddy is a horrific kick.
Unless it is an attitude problem. Then what choice does the club have? You can’t come out and say that publicly after delisting someone.
Or look to see who posted😉
FMD, I got banned for suggesting Brad Scott didn’t get on with Dodoro and this passes muster?
I’m not judging by the way - just an observation on double standards
It shouldn’t have received a pass. There is no evidence for it, and is decidedly slanderous
Yep
Effectively this will boil down to replacing a 20yo former pick 50 with an 18yo pick 45.
FWIW I have no strong thoughts on J Davey one way or the other. Had a few tools, but a fair way off the full package.
In the big picture, churning the bottom end of the list is unlikely to move the needle.
To get anywhere we need to have the balls a) to make hard decisions into the guts of the list to get some really good kids in and b) have some patience and commitment to developing good kids.
We haven’t done either
We target mediocrity. We will succeed in achieving it.
But it was in the minds of some.
Currently a perception may be that EFC takes a harder approach on indigenous people than others. And the fleeting cameos of Ryder and Dean Rioli add to the confusion.
The point overall is fair but for honesty’s sake, the club didn’t get rid of Ryder, he walked out on the club.
How do you reconcile that with players like Martin, Durham, Roberts coming through?
Just to be argumentative…
Martin was better when he joined the club than he has been recently.
Roberts has only just started… we have had plenty of players start well.
I actually meant in his role as ruck coach or indigenous support or whatever it was only recently. Same with Dean Riolo, on the Board and off the Board quickly.
Ah, yep. With you now.
I have a sneaky feeling a lot of guys believe what they’re told, then walk in the door and see the problems, and walk straight back out.
Nothing specifically to back this.
They gave the guy two years. After coming off his second severe injury and he didn’t play any U18s footy in his final year.
Simply because of his last name.
That is more opportunity than any normal player gets.
Jayden had serious goal kicking skills. I watched him kick torps through the goals from the boundary like it was nothing. And that was during his rehab work.
I suspect his injury recovery at the club wasn’t as positive as it could be. Only the club and Jayden known the reasons why he took so long to get into normal football drills.
He got a full season in the VFL. That is a huge positive. If he wants to make it in the AFL, then the VFL is a huge starting point for him.
I don’t think his performance in VFL warranted AFL games. He scored a goal in more than half the games he played but only had more than 1 tackle three times. That’s nowhere near AFL standard footy. And he’s well below others playing in his position even though we have the worst small forward brigade in the whole competition. This is not the kind of performance we want from a senior listed player. He has a long way to go. And we weren’t willing to give him the time needed.
This was not a difficult decision. I thought a one year contract extension was being generous just to see if he could improve on this year. But wasn’t surprised he was delisted to help with Kako bids. He’s the kind of player you stick on a rookie list, not on the senior list.
I wish him all the best and hope he finds himself back onto a list after working on his game at a VFL club. If that’s not the case, I hope he finds some joy in playing footy and makes of it what he can.
