Former #39 Patrick Voss - false messiah

He wasn’t really a tall though at afl level he would have been a third forward

By that token you might as well suggest we use every player on our list. For some players it’s obvious they won’t make it. Club saw Voss as one of them. It happens. Bemoan it if he goes on to play 200 games for Hawthorn but until then - eh.

^^ THIS ^^

Pfft… development year my arsse (despite us being told it was).

Regularly this year Scott’s words did not match his actions, and I’m not sold on him at all.

I’ve learnt not to expect much from Essendon, but is a little integrity too much to ask…

Agree with a lot of the comments here. It’s a strange decision and one that definitely feels as though we are missing some context.

It’s probably not palatable from the club’s perspective to provide public commentary/ reasoning relating to off-field issues/professionallism expectations- and tbh not fair to Voss either who appears to have handled his axeing with some grace.

I’m in the ‘something other than just footy’ camp with this one. I really liked him as a prospect.

At the very least Voss was worth 1 of the games we carried Weed through.

Tend to think old mate pee-wok they made him emergency a few times to let him know he was close to getting a game, if committed to improvement in some important aspects of his on and off field roles.
I think he failed to commit and they’ve let him go.

Sydney delisted Brett kirk and re-rookied him, he ended up wining a B&F for the swans in a Premiership year.

why cant we have nice things like that.

Maybe that was Paul Roos doing though.

Showed more than Voss was at the time, and we had less need for Voss.

Man i saw something different… cox was ordinary for me

Cox selection was baffling when Baldwin was one of the inform defenders in the VFL competiton.

What i wanted to see from Scott was selection integrity.

So who’s girlfriend did Voss, Carey?

IIRC game before he came up, had 15 possessions in a half and kicked a goal or two, whilst playing on Menegola on the wing. And been playing wing for 3 wks before

Cox being promoted up to play wing/outside mid rotations was correct at the time.

But coming in to take Ridley’s spot when out was less so.

Yes in fairness he played a good half. He needed too.

When were we told this?

Think the whispers around the track was he wasn’t your grade a professional football type.

Right from the outset. It was one of the first things Scott said, words to the effect of “we don’t have any expectations, results are a bit academic… the year will be all about development”.

The philosophy was fine until it wasn’t and we started believing our own hype and chased finals.

I mean they did play him as a midfielder for 2-3 weeks….which is not really his position.

Behind the ball Cox looked solid without starring.

His hands, his forward craft, his agility, his running ability, his size (not quite tall enough and not quite mobile enough)

Probably his commitment (but I wouldn’t know about that)
