Former #49 Tom Hird

I hope for the whole Hird family and to stick it up AFL house Tom becomes the greatest player of all time!

Be nice for us too.

Fantastic.

Don’t think he’ll struggle for sponsors.

I love James Hird and would love to see him back at the club watching his son/sons carve out a career wearing the red and black.
Words can’t describe how happy I will be to see this amazing man back home.

There was already a Hird back at EFC. Didnt Steph play with the VFL?i

The audio on this one is truly horrendous, but worth watching to count the broken necks as they perform the best version of Wuthering Heights.

Only in an 2019 intramatch. Lightweight leading forward. Kicked one goal.

Never seen again.

Ah. Only there for the photo op?

Correct. If Tom played a senior game they would be the only 4 consecutive generations at the same club though.

Should start in #49 like his old man.

Who knows whether he’ll make it or not, but this really warms my heart.

I have no idea if he’ll make it as a player but I’m rapt that he’s giving it a shot. After everything his Dad went through, it would have been so easy for him to turn his back on AFL completely.

Yep-and I’m sure he’ll have copped plenty of ā– ā– ā– ā–  too. I hope he makes it - the family deserves some joy.

So, how many Category B players have turned out to be good players - either for Essendon or other clubs? Have there been any standouts?

McNeice was a star.
