Founder of Westboro Baptist Church about to die

Who is this person I have never heard off but there is a thread about?

Don't worry, you are not missing much

Cool, thanks.

Not that it surprises a single person here that you don't know who he is.

True. I don't really know who you are.

Just a thought - how good would it be if they could organise the gay and lesbian mardi gras to tack onto the back of his funeral procession?!?!?!

I was involved in a production of 'The Laramie Project' a few years ago, which is the tragic story about the hate crime against Matthew Shepard.

Fred Phelps played a big part in the story, and subsequently we had to study and research him a great deal. Considering his position, you would struggle to find a more vile and disgusting man on the planet. The mere mention of his name still makes me feel sick.

Never want to speak ill of the dying but the amount of pain this person and his family/followers have caused is unconscionable.

Some people deserve to have dances held on their graves.

That man was evil.

His death should be a cause for celebration.

The thing is, I just don't get how people end up like that? To put it simply... what is their problem??

He's still left of the Tea Party.

The thing is, I just don't get how people end up like that? To put it simply... what is their problem??

So true. How can you be SO CERTAIN you are right, that you would go to a kids funeral and claim the kid died 'cause God Hates ■■■■ and America was the new Soddam? It takes a deranged mind and a lot of brainwashing to make a "church" like that. Heck, even if I WAS 100% certain, I'd like to think I still had enough class to draw the line somewhere...

George Takai has a good take on it. Basically be bigger than the bigot. Don’t protest his funeral, just ignore them. I like it.

Right wing extremism is alive and well down south in the States and always has been.  And I am not talking about right wing conservative Christians, I am talking about those who wear sheets on their heads.  What causes it?  Who knows but it is a generational training thing that keeps on growing, like Neo-Nazism.  What makes these guys tick?  Hatred, pure hatred.

I made up a new phrase last night. "Fetid-neck". It's like Redneck, but the burn went septic.

Is he dead yet?

Is he dead yet?

But I am not dead yet!

Surely to be excommunicated from a hate cult, you have to be one of the things you hate, whether that article is true or not, I'm betting he was a closet homosexual who fell inlove with a jewish man early on in life and didn't know how to handle it.

I can see the appeal in that approach, but likewise I can see the value in having the undertaker slip a rainbow flag and a gay-sex ■■■■ video into his coffin right before he gets buried.

And have him buried dressed like Freddie Mercury in his prime...or Boy George.

Or someone should pay Peter Dinklage to go to the funeral and reprise his role from "Death at a funeral".

And.... he's dead.

"Hello my baby

Hello my honey

Hello my ragtime gal"

laters you sack of poop

I read an article a while back that claimed Fred had been arrested for 'public indecency' (with another bloke involved) when he was quite young.  Haven't got the link though, and googling 'Fred Phelps gay' is just a pathway to depression with humanity.

What a wasted life, seriously.  Though apparently he did some good stuff representing blacks against racist laws in the 60s.
