Fringe Players for 2015

Ashby is seriously talented, and is probably now the first emergency for Bags.

Browne, Hams and Dalgleish could all make the themselves regulars, fitness pending. All have something we need.

2015: YEAR OF THE MOOSE

Dying to see Browne and Dalgleish get a good run next season. Hams too. They’ve all got what it takes to crack the side and hold a place. Hopefully 2015 is their year. Would love to hear opposition supporters say, “who the hell is Browne/Dalgleish/Hams? He’s tearing us apart today.”

the problem is, who in the eyes of the coaches, do these fringe players push out, esp with the addition of cooney and gwilt (giles obv replaces ryder so that's sorted)

jackson merrett got gifted 7 odd games in the middle to later stage, but if fit and in form like early season, that's another spot off the table.

Melksham is another fav who gets gifted games without form behind them, bar a small patch later in this season, but will most likely be starting rd 1 next year.

Coyler hopefully will continue on with his second half of the year form, so another spot taken.

So barring major injuries, none of the fringe players, on recent history will be anywhere near being selected, sadly.

Even though he will get a permanent upgrade to the senior list I fear that Paddy Ambrose may be pushed back into he fringe.  He will have to put in a massive pre-season and develop marking and general ball winning skills.   Spots are just not opening up on the half forward line,   experienced players are coming in who will start claiming those spots.

The Fringe Festival is now at Tullamarine!

Most upside of any fringe player

Need the third and fourth year players to make big steps forward. We need them two, preferably three to play at least 12+ games in 2015.

Can say I am bullish about Ashby.

This is what happens when you get a settled experienced senior side.

Just because your on an AFL list doesn’t mean you get to play seniors, especially not when your at a finals worthy team. It’s not a charity, you get games when you deserve it and if opportunity arises.

However Hallahan won the VFL b&f and barely got a look in. Lowden killed it in his one game and then got bypassed by Ceglar (who got replaced in the GF by McEvoy)

Both of the young players left Hawthorn for more opportunities after being chased by other sides.

Not sure our fringe players have achieved anything worthy of them being chased by other sides. So they can just keep plying away trying to maintain their position on the list by continually looking to improve and wait for opportunity.

O'Brien can't see him cracking a spot in the 22 next year.

You never know, these guys could quite suddenly become 'best 22' by round 1 :P

especially if they get injured...

I'm interested to see if Hird has any favourites or otherwise different to Bomber.

Will Hurley stay back for 99% of games or will we see him up forward a bit more often?

Will Zach Merrett be a regular fixture? Gleeson?

Will Kommer/Jerrett/Melksham be best 22 auto-selections?

What about Chappy? Is he auto-select when fit?

How much will Fletch be rested? Will he retire on 400 games? Or is he a lock if we play finals?

Will Joe Daniher be pencilled in for 22+ games?

Something has to give, you can't fit all of the following in a team...

(And yes, this is a sneaky reverse best 22 thread, so here goes...)

Fletcher/Hooker/Baguley

Hibberd/Hurley/Dempsey/Gleeson

Watson/Heppel/Stanton/Howlett/Goddard/Cooney/Myers

/Hocking/TBell/Zacka/Colyer/Melksham/J. Merret

Carlisle/Chappy/Winderlich

Daniher/Ambrose/Kommer/Z. Merret

There's 27 names above, so pick 5 guys who have to miss out and 1 who can only be sub...

Obviously most of those mids will play a fair bit of time forward or back too...

And that's not including guys' like Pears, Stein, Hams, Browne etc...

Everyone is assuming we have a healthy list for the majority of the year. we won't

and we have depth for smalls so will be able to rest chappy/winders if needed and other sore players.

Fletcher probably gets a rest when we play the teams without 3 key talls. or we send Hurley forward and drop ambrose.

What we should have is a settled lineup. but if Kav/obrien/etc are dominating in the reserves they will get their chance. And that is what it will take which is a good thing.

Big question marks for me are Melksham is he a hird favourite can he improve his game again.

Defence is solid, but can we squeeze gleeson and gwilt in back there?

Young midfielders - Hams/Browne/kav/obrien/mckenna/ Jerrett/zerrett what role will they play in our lineup.

Can Kommer, Dalgleish and Hams be injury free and make a difference to the side

Really need to draft a key tall in the ND. (Goddard fingers crossed)
