C’mon you pelicans, you don’t genuinely believe Essendon are a chance tonight, do you!? Don’t be fooled by last weeks mirage. Essendon will revert to type and get spanked by the Blues, unfortunately. The Blues are the second highest scoring team in the first half of games this year. Essendon struggle to score at the best of times and they’ll likely be too far back to make any meaningful inroads. BUT(!), I’ll be there tonight with my daughter revelling in watching the next wave of baby Bombers do their thing

I agree! On paper Carlton by 4-5 goals but questions on fitness if Cripps / Walsh abd whether Blues week off helps or hinders. And the rain. Essendon is decimated really…

they easily beat us in the next game in 2006, send us to the bottom of the ladder in the midst of our record losing streak. Those were very strange times, no idea how we avoided the spoon that year.

7 yr old me remebers that well, it was 100 points and then DIGBY MORRELL kicked a very very late behind
Starting with the 1999 Prelim, they became a major pain in the arse for the next 7-8 years afterwards.
We were fairly mediocre for a majority of that time (2002 onwards) but they were worse! Pagan had an influence coaching against Sheedy.
2001? 0-2
2002? We went 2-0 and they won the spoon.
2003? 1-1
2004? 1-1
2005? 1-1 (wooden spoon)
2006? 0-1-1 (wooden spoon)
2007? 1-1
Some of those losses proved very costly in a couple of instances, restricting us from playing home finals.

Rain could come back in, but fairly clear on the radar for now. Are all the VFL guys going to suit up, or could they hold McMahon over in case it’s looking unexpectedly dry near game time.
Or maybe they just try Clarke as the semi-tall outsized defender on the new ruck. Problem is if TDK rests forward….
Or do we try small ball forward and use Wright in defence if it’s going crazy.
The two 01’ losses were super disappointing at the time. I remember as a nine year-old being devastated after the Round 3 defeat. I thought we were invincible.

Round 2, 2005. 7 goals up at 3qtr time. Manage to lose by 4 points. Still maintain Sheedy should have been sacked on the spot after that one.

The first one because the Blues were as decimated with injuries as we are tonight. And still won after being 17 down in the final quarter.
The second game was probably the best game of the season, which is a weird thing to say two weeks after the biggest comeback of all time game (North). Again we chucked away a final quarter lead.
They certainly had our measure in a number of areas, but particularly above the shoulders.
I never have thought last week was a sign of a new era not be repeated because Essendon and consistency hasn’t worked in 20 years
