Scotty runner up again. Loses in a playoff after coming back from 4 shots down.
Just had a 3-day cricket club golf trip up in Barooga. Stopped part the way there and played Mooroopna on the Friday and then played both the courses up in Barooga. Sarurday was a stroke round, and those scores were used to draw up the 4-ball Ambrose teams for Sunday.
We had 22 players so I ended up on a 5-man team. Given I was one of the 4 worst players OK the tour, they only required 2 drives from me. 4 from the top 3 players in the team, 2 each from myself and the other hack, and 2 wildcard drives. Got one of my drives away on the opening tee, drilled one straight down the middle. Meant pressure was off for the rest of the round. Overall played OK. Hit an 8-iron on the last Par 3 to about 6 feet from the hole for my 2nd tee shot taken. Chipped and pitched quite well. Was a fun weekend.
Ambrose is an awesome concept for hackers like me! You forget all your dud shots and only play your cracking ones.
I’m sick of having to carry you @redbull, pull your weight would you!
We players Ambrose last week at my club. As the high handicapper I was first to putt each hole. Felt very stress free!
Hahaha same as me, mainly to give the others a read of the green. I’d never been up there but Barooga is a lovely part of the world. Went and watched some local footy after our round, Barooga duly belting Jerilderie. Weather was spectacular, 21-22 degrees everyday. Courses were in immaculate condition, but the Old course was my favourite.
The clubs in the north side of Murray are so good given all the money that was pumped into them via Pokies before they were legalised in Victoria. I remember as a kid in the mid 90s seeing the bus line Pokie Capers at my local golf club in Deniliquin every day.
Barooga’s footy team have dropped back to the minor league after spending 35 years in the Murray League. Jerilderie were also in the Murray league until the mid 90s. They won a few flags in the 80s with a heap of players coming down from Darwin. Russell Jeffrey played there between stints at St Kilda and Brisbane.
Hannah Green does it again. She’s in tip top form!
4 out of 5??? Who does that? Watch Hannah charge late in the 4th round. She doesn’t give in ever. And correct me if I’m wrong but that’s not hubby on the bag.
A touchy note is that Jin Hee Im, who was in the play off, was penalised one stroke for slow play in the 3rd round. Hmm? Would officials in the PGA do the same? Good on the LPGA says I.
If anyone here is old enough to remember Ken Roberts No:6 who played in the 70’s I am having a hit of golf with him on Friday
i for one am shocked and blindsided by this news
Well they tried. It took the Saudi’s to have a go (which was for all the wrong reasons and distasteful) but it looks like the USPGA monopoly will remain intact indefinitely… which is an absolute shocker. The PGA juggernaut is the reason why nearly all of us and the rest of the world bar the US will never see the best players plying their trade in person ever.
You forgot to put it in comic sans
It’s ridiculous that there isn’t a world golf tour. LIV offered some great aspects. The team element and global tour were the big 2 for me. I like the concept of pro golfers having something to play for on every hole as part of the team. Better than playing for the cut that the PGA purists seem to rave about.
A great day was had today playing golf with Ken Roberts. He is a fantastic, friendly bloke. Hope to play again with him soon.
The Norf boys out on the golf course today, Daniel, Zurhaar, Harvey and McDonald.
I can imagine Zurhaar hitting it a long way, but being fairly wayward! ![]()
