On Wednesday I finished with par, par, par, birdie. Started this morning with par, par, par and then the wheel came off and normal service resumed. It’s a game that brings you back down to earth if you start getting cocky.
Great afternoon in the pres cup, we won all 5 matches in the foursomes. 7-3 up.
won’t be enough going in the singles.. but a nice highlight!
I think it’s really irresponsible for Blitz to be promoting such a reckless and dangerous sport on a public forum. How many more careers do you lot ruined? I don’t want my daughter to become the next Darcy Parish. Shame.
Played in a four-ball comp yesterday for the EDFL Umpires golf day at Craigieburn. Finished 2nd but was poorly organised by the course. We were all scheduled to start at the 1st hole, 8 groups with 9 mins between tee-off times. Anyone outside of our groups was supposed to start on the 10th at that time however they sent everyone to the 1st hole. Was not ideal, our round took over 5 hours and the group behind us (not part of our golf day) hit up on us about 4 or 5 times, never yelled fore. One of our group got hit. I haven’t been playing golf long but even I know that’s pretty ordinary conduct…
Played this morning, a bit seedy after yesterday’s GF. Head wouldn’t stay down and had a shocker. Parred the last, the money hole, and took 15 bucks . Thanks for coming.
Regulars telling you to get out of the way. First time, let it go. Second time, maybe hold your arms up as if to say WTF. Third time, smack their ball back at them. But make sure it’s a good strike otherwise it could be embarrassing.![]()
On more than one occasion we were waiting at the tee block with the group behind us, so they had to know it wasn’t our fault. The guy who organised the golf day was pretty apologetic but it was on the pro shop. If those groups were told to tee off from the 10th we wouldn’t have had an issue. We teed off about 15 mins later than we should’ve and had that group right up our arse the whole time.
Anyway was a good day regardless. Not a bad course but not one that would make me want to play there regularly. Seriously contemplating Woodend even though it’s a 50 min drive away. Very nice.
Ok my fellow blitz golfers .
I need advice on how to putt on fast greens ….seeing you have some super fast greens in the south any tips would be appreciated
I had 79 today with a 4 putt and 4 x 3 putts .
Admittedly the greens were tricked up but I can’t get consistentency in length
What’s the typical miss? Leaving them short or hitting them past the hole?
Both lol
A good tip I’ve been given is the most important putting drills is about distance control. So the most practise should be about controlling your length - so if it’s a fast or slow green it’s about just adjusting the length that you’re trying to putt to. There’s different drills to help with that.. but spend time with working on that and it helps a lot and eliminates the bad holes..
A few things that helped me as my home course has pretty slick greens:
- Be okay hitting it past the hole. Obvious statement is obvious, but you’ll never hole one if it’s short, but you might fluke a few by hitting it longer
- Drill 1 - make a 1 foot square in line with the hole that extents 1 foot past it (if that makes sense). Go practice your long distance putts, say 20ft, with the aim of hitting it within the square. If you hole it, then happy days, but it will help your distance control and hopefully get your ‘bad’ putts into gimme range. If 1 foot becomes tricky then extend it a bit bigger until you find some consistency.
- Drill 2 - put the putter head in the hole, lay the shaft down flat then mark tees at North/South/East/West and remove the putter as you’ll clearly be needing it lol. . Start with 3 balls at the North tee peg with the intent to sink all 3 in a row before moving to the next tee, the east tee peg. Sink 3 there, then move to the south peg etc etc. Once you complete 4 stations, extend the pegs by another putter length and try the same circuit. This will improve your shorter distance control as well as accuracy. Gets pretty challenging but stick with it.
I don’t think there’s any silver bullet per se for putting on fast greens, and training putting clearly isn’t as fun as hitting the range, but it’s where you’ll pick up the most strokes - and in turn retain your sanity.
How fast are we talking?
Things like deliberately hitting it off the top on the super fast downhill putts (you know, the ones where you have a 6 footer and don’t want to end up 45ft past) were the types of things I grew up with. All in all the most important thing for distance control is consistent ball-strike. If you’re not getting that then getting the distance right is impossible. So Is just concentrate on that and dialling in the green speed with your putting stroke. It’s so easy to lose your putting stroke when you get hesitant on fast greens, but trust the stroke and everything else takes care of itself
These were a 12 /13 on the stimp ….pins placed on edges of plateaus you know the deal lol
I had a putt above the hole where the ball barely did a revolution before rolling out 10 feet down to the pin.
I drove the ball fantastic but no reward for shots into green .
I played with a local and said last week depending on the pin placement they were unputtable
Despite the torrential rain here in Melbourne the last 48 hours or so, still got out this morning for 9 holes at Royal Park. Given the amount of people who cancelled, got around in just over 1 hour 30 mins. Course basically to myself, caught up with a group in front of me by the 7th. Didn’t get as wet as I thought I would. Loved it!
Having a course to yourself is the best. Looking forward to daylight savings and getting some of that Spring, late afternoon, play until it gets too dark, golf in
In Canberra with the sticks.
Advice on best place to roll on for a cheeky early morning 9?
Royal Canberra?
I have no idea, the last time I played golf in Canberra was almost 40 years ago…..far out. My dad was way younger than I am now, and his best golf was well behind him…..
Sometimes I hit the ball so hard that it changes brand when I find it.
