Grimley

DUMPED Hawthorn forward Sam Grimley could be thrown an AFL lifeline after being delisted by the three-time reigning premier.

The 199cm big man, who is on holiday in Bali, is determined to continue his career at the elite level and AFL.com.au understands Grimley has attracted interest from two clubs since he was cut by the Hawks.

Grimley has been a joint winner of the VFL’s Frosty Miller Medal as the state league’s leading goalkicker over the past two seasons, booting 46 goals this year after slotting 45 in 2014.

The 24-year-old boasts excellent speed and endurance for a big man and kicked bags of six goals against Geelong and five against eventual premier Williamstown this season.

But he couldn’t get a look-in for the powerhouse Hawthorn side spearheaded by Jarryd Roughead and Jack Gunston, while Ryan Schoenmakers also settled into the forward line.

Grimley played all three of his matches for the Hawks in 2013, when he booted a goal in each game against Gold Coast, Melbourne and St Kilda.

He is understood to be open to a move interstate and has been linked to the Brisbane Lions, who bolstered their key forward stocks with Josh Walker from Geelong during the Trade Period.

They are also likely to draft Murray Bushrangers tall forward Josh Schache with pick No.2.

Grimley was drafted by the Hawks from the Northern Knights with pick 39 in 2009.

He was demoted from Hawthorn’s senior squad at the end of last year and, with one year left on his contract, unsuccessfully tried to find a new suitor in the trade period before the Hawks re-drafted him as a rookie for 2015.

Could we potentially sign grimley? Might add a bit of depth up forward we could get him as a delisted free agent

Would take him, ... but only in a stern, uncompromising & forbidding way.

Agree. Must get him in on the right terms. You reap what you so with Grim

I know nothing about him other than what was in that article. You’d think there are probably worse things to do with a list spot though than give a bloke who couldn’t crack Hawthorn’s best 22.

Does he have any brothers?

A bit like his forefathers adapted to the new country. I am of course referring to the pilgrims

Fairytale.

Still people grimly carrying on with the puns.

Yes … grimley

Hawthorn delisted him and picked up Fitzpatrick...

Not to mention they’d shopped him around the last couple of years and got no bites
That and the last few tall guys the Dawks have flogged off have been fair average (Lowden, Renouf)

Are you suggesting we should be the Grimley reaper?

Nah, Grimley’s 46.16 this year is not quite as accurate as Giles’ 15.5.

He's crap. That's one thing that'd count against him.

Whats the worst that could happen?

As a rookie pick, yes
