Gumby

Play him in the league side for the rest of the year.

Give him a decent run ffs

I still have hope for him

I think he's a great player and I agree, players need time to settle in. Gumbleton is as good as Cloke. Just give him the game time.

I have seen all of gumby's games in the AFL this year. Seen Joe's games in the afl this year. I would rather have Joe in the team(who is the future!) than a guy who cannot produce a 2nd effort and is a liability on the field.

Why give games to a guy if you are just going to trade him or delist him at the end of the season? Makes no sense at all.

Gumbelton has had his chances this year and he hasn't taken them. End of story.

Really ... up until mid season he'd strung a bunch of decent games together, was taking marks, kicking accurately, bringing the ball to ground and roaming high up the wing playing that link up role.

Then he got dropped (still not sure why)

from then on he's had 2 games where he's been brought in after an extended period out to play in heavy rain with F all  favorable delivery and v defenders who have relished the ball being bomber on his head.

he didn't mark well yesterday (though i thought he had enough of a couple that weren't paid to be marks), but he kept presenting, was in the contest. Our entire forward line was dysfunctional yesterday, not just Gumby.

IMO let him play the season out, if he's going to be traded let him build up some currency and hope he has a big game in the next 3 (or 4 or 5 hopefully) and give him a chance to build some confidence.

I'm not saying he's our best forward or anything like that ... just feel early on he did enough, and showed enough - he's a massive confidence player.

Yesterday, It truly sucked to hear multiple jerks in the Members oscillating between Gumby bashing and Stanton bashing. Not surprisingly, it was exclusively male pensioners.

I was critical of Fumbleton yesterday and then Hird in the presser reveals he had a corky...  so you really have to question the Match Commitee and their selection of the side especially in a game as important as that one, also the need for Fumbleton to ensure his confidence is high, which would have taken another turn on yesterdays game.

Based on the lack of Tall Forward depth and talent that we have we need to keep Fumbleton for another year at least....

IF ESSENDON need to invest in anything they need to invest in a specialist forward coach for the likes of Hurley, Gumbleton, Crameri & Daniher because NONE of those guy know how or where to lead to maximise the Inside 50 entries...even if half those entries we bad to average then we still have 25/30 which are quality and we are taking f-all marks and kicking bugger all goals....

We are still lacking midfield depth also, so f-off the small forwards unless they can spend at least 50% of the time on the ball having an impact....  Davey, Jette and Dell-O-L-eoooo are basically "no impact" players

Yeah i reckon Collingwood wanted to do a straight swap for Gumbleton last year, but they just couldn't convince Gumbleton to leave. FFS!

That's a Richmond move.

Nope went into the game with a corky... you have to run into packs and contests to get a corky during the game

■■■■.

Gumby is a victim of the chaos that is our forward line. We rarely get it to our talls one-out, or kick to space to a lead. More often than not, Gumby found himself sitting under a high ball as one or two WC players came over the top. I don't know whether it's a coaching problem, or whether our players don't know how to make space for each other. But I think it's fair to say that the likes of Bellchambers, Ryder, Crameri and Hurley are not particularly smart or instinctive forwards. I reckon Gumby has better forward-play smarts than all of those players. That's not to say he is a better footballer.

I'm not a fan of playing two ruckmen and a congested, top heavy forward line. Personally I'd like to see just one of Bellchambers or Ryder in the team, and either Gumby, or JD, play as a relief ruckman. Perhaps both of them. Bellchambers is a decent forward, but he just doesn't understand that he needs to keep separation from the other key forward. Crameri is athletic and brutish, but he football nous is pretty poor. I don't know what to make of Ryder, even after 150 games. But I'm pretty sure he could work harder to create space for his teammates, and to work into space himself.

What I like about Gumby is that he works hard, and will double back and repeat lead. But if your teammates aren't making space, there's little reward for effort in doing that. If we want someone to stand under high bombs, Gumby is not the man for the job. Bellchambers is your best bet there. But I really doubt that bombing it long to a contest is a sustainable method for success. Modern defenders are too good at knowing when to leave their man and kill the contest for that to work.

include him in the package to get pick 1

let daniher and boyd destroy the competition for a decade

Other than Jobe and Heppell, wtf could we give up to get pick 1...

I had not noticed that you are a complete ■■■■■■■■ before. How did I miss that ?

Yep. Save the derogatory nicknames for opposition players.

good to see your still a FW

I reckon Gumby, Hurley and Crameri have played a total of 1 game together, and it wasn't one of Gumby's better games.

I sort of agree with you are trying to get at... but it has very little to do with Tom Bellchambers.

That was the game against StKilda when Hurley dominated, got injured and then Gumby dominated in the second half.

Any way Belly will get a chance to show how good a ruck he is this week,

just thinking out loud here, how about we play gumby as an old fashion centre half fwd leading, repeatedly, hard up to the wings and across the ground on switches. work work work work work. actually no that is a stupid idea, lets play him as a deep stationary target in 2 on 1s and bomb it on his head over and over again, that will work

Could he play chb?

He was useless forward yesterday. His long limbs could be handy in the backline though

Will master the 'mark whilst having team mates sit ball on head whilst giving defender(s) multiple opportunities to spoil' technique soon.

Gets plenty of chances.

Don't know about that, but I am prepared to believe you, because he seems to have acquired the "trampoline hands" marking style pioneered by Hurley.

Concur.  How is it that a team can pass the ball all the way the ground but when it gets to the forwards it bounces off them and comes all the way back?  Not angry just dumbfounded, there's gotta be a solution.  Maybe they need glasses.
