Gus Gilmour

Sites are reporting that Gary 'Gus' Gilmour, former Australian Test cricket all rounder has passed away aged 62.

Gus Gilmour has passed away..a sad day...had not an enemy in the game...his bat was an axe and he could swing a brick around a container.RIP

That's no good.

Hasn't been well for a long time now. RIP.

A man who lived life to the full…until gout got him.

He would have been an amazing T20 player!

A heavy drinking lifestyle struggles to survive with gout...or pancreatitis.
You're OK if you get off the turps.

The guy has just died and you giving medical advice?

Gilmour was one who I thought could fill that all-rounder spot but never went on with it after joining WSC.

Vale G.Gilmour.

Considering the gout hit him in the 70s and stuffed his playing career. Hardly up-to-date news. The boy liked a drink.

Norman Mailer's book about him was excellent.

Could have been anything. We got to see enough glimpses to see what his best was like, and it was world class. He was one that was always willing to take the attack to the bowler, and helped accelerate run rates, so definitely not from the Bill Lawry school of scoring. Good Ozzie larrikin, tons of character. l dreaded even looking in this thread when l saw the title. Another good one gone. Sad days right now.

Seriously admired Gary Gilmour’s talent as a cricketer in the 70’s. It’s a shame we didn’t see more of it due to a number of factors. Loved his ability to swing it both ways, and given the conditions, he was unplayable. The world cup semi final in 1975 is a great example of this.

Loved the way he attacked the bowling. Mitchell Johnson reminds me of Gus in the way he would thrash the ball if its there to be hit. Wish there was footage of his 101 v New Zealand. 86 runs in boundaries!

Imagine what he could have achieved if he actually took it more seriously. Sad to hear about his health battles over the years.

RIP

He had an unusual action, didn't he?

Seemed to bowl off his back foot?

Seemed to bowl off his back foot?

It was a natural action, and quite fluent.
The unusual actions of that period were Max Walker and Mike Proctor (who bowled off his back foot).
