High Altitude (simulated) Training facilities raffle

Just got a call from sales person trying to flog raffle tickets to raise money for new facility.

While I want EFC to have this facility, and happy for clubs to raise money this way, not overly happy with high pressure cold calls.

not sure if essendon insider still resides around this forum, but if so, please suggest to EFC not to use outsourced marketing companies for these things as give me the irrits.

listend for a while, but when getting over the spiel I twice had ask to get to the conclusion, which she would not do until finished, then obviously disapointed when I said I will stick to my plan of donating to the flight plan with my membership renewal rather than her raffle ticket at this time.

notwithstanding the above, the high altitude training facilities sound pretty good though, I hope they get them in place. (I would have thought flight plan money would be used toward these sorts of things??)

I received a call from these guys the day after the AFL sanctions were handed down. They tried to use the $2m fine as leverage. Was not impressed to say the least.

I have a principle of never buy anything from telemarketers.

Hard to imagine you not being impressed by the club. You are usually so positive

$200 for a raffle ticket is asking a bit much.

Play Hurley down back and I’ll buy a ticket

I would rather give the $ straight to the Flight Plan and thats what I did last time that women called up.

She doesn't no ■■■■ about essendon and her  small talk about 'the boys' is awkward.

you telling me the guy I spoke to wasen't an Essendon member or employee....... Yes would rather just donate through membership renewal.

A bit much asking for more $$$$ when we just wasted a whole year on nothing

I haven't had this call, but a friend has, and they don't think it's an EFC-sanctioned thing at all. The caller could only say the thing was being arranged by some "supporter's group".

Be very very careful. It wouldn't surprise me if this was a scam (even if legal) trying to cash in on the good-feeling that came with weathering the storm this year.

Did they say what they would do with the money if they didn't raise the funds for the stated purpose?

Maybe the people behind it do have good intentions. But if so, it's terrible execution. Cold calls to worn-out supporters, essentially asking for donations to a cutting-edge medical program. Good luck with that.

that is very true, and a big part of why I asked her to get to the point, felt like a really cheesy infomercial sales pitch

I spoke to a young bloke, told him I knew what the call was about, gave him some feedback on the year and bought a ticket. Received my instant win card and scratched up $50 so down $150 at this stage and still eligible for the $30k first prize, or the early bird prize. Quite happy to provide support that will directly benefit players, and will add extra for the flight plan when I renew my membership. In some respects, it is better for telemarketers to do the pitch, as it actually puts less pressure on you to donate. How would you feel saying no if it was Jobe Watson, Bomber Thompson or Steve Alessio on the other end of the line? I think it is actually good recognition from the club that not everyone will want to donate, and people are far happier telling telemarketers to go ■■■■ themselves than they would be a past or present player.

As has been pointed out endlessly!

At least the voice on the other end of the phone didn't sound like it came from a call centre in Mumbai.

the guy who rang me said the more you buy they get discounted, something like if you bought 10 it works out to 100 each. would anyone be interested in a consortium? I have no idea of the logistics of making it work but if theres anyone with any sensible ideas id be willing to contribute.

Cheers, and good to know. I am a pessimistic grumpy young man, who should find out more info before crapping on other people's efforts.

Sorry - I've been on a self-imposed BB holiday since The Penalties, and have only seen this thread on this. But I am glad it's not a scam.

Thought it was dodgy when they rang.

I got my ticket and I was not an instant winner.  But I'm still in the draw for the major prize.
