HOT TAKES

It started here in 1976.

your sense of humour didn’t think the muppets were funny?

Nup. Didn’t care for the show one little bit when it first came out and my opinion hasn’t changed in the fifty years since it first appeared. Vastly over-rated. That’s my hot take.

I’m still waiting for @Captain_Jack to tell me what the target demographic was.

Well, if it started here in 1976…I was 15/16 and used to sit down and watch it with my parents and two sisters (who would have been 17/18 and 8/9).

We all loved it.

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Swoodley has given you a better answer than l ever could. Having said that, it is perfectly okay not to like something, even though plenty of other people do. At that stage l couldn’t stand yoghurt for instance, but tastes can change.

I have never ever watched The Muppets.

Why do you hate joy?

Old post but same thing twice when I was in Perth/Freo a few months ago. It was blatant, young women both times. So gross

Presumably you scheduled in a rewatch every decade just to make sure?

I like it but it’s like a lot of shows that ran for aaaaages. Lots of funny bits but not super consistent.

You really that old and still have a sense of humour ? You must have been wicked as a teenager.

re: Muppets, that was a legit hot trash take.

I didn’t watch it much but from the limited exposure I would have thought it was initially targeted at Children but as the show developed, more and more adults would watch it. Very similar to how The Simpson’s developed over time

I think it was a forerunner to shows that provided appropriate entertainment for the junior audience while subtley amusing the parents at the same time.

Adventure time, as an example, was something a young dingus jr and I could watch together and laugh for different reasons. The Muppets had that in spades.

Also Jim Henson was the greatest human to ever live and I will engage in hand to hand combat with anybody who besmirches his name or output.

Following on from my post in the Boycott thread

Will Farrell is not funny

Quite correct. Ditto Vince Vaughan.

Agree

And (unrelated to those two), if you need excessive swearing to think you are funny as a comedian, then maybe comedy isnt your go. Saw Bill Simmons (think that was his name) and Jason Byrne at the comedy festival a few years back and every second word was F— or C—, ruined the show as I felt the delivery was poor.

Swearing is fine and often needed in the delivery, but over-using it is just too annoying.

Don’t disagree entirely. Certainly a bit overrated.
