I was at the comeback game, ponsford level one. At Qtr time those I was with were lamenting never being at a close game, and wanted to leave. I honestly, honestly didn’t think we were out of it. I was right behind when Hird kicked that goal from tight in the pocket under pressure early in Qtr 2 - it was a mongrel but went it mangled its way through - the energy just rose to a different level. From then on I knew it would be a special day.
(Look at the stats of the goals kicked in every qtr of that game. It seems impossible, and was amazing to be there)
JJ was incredible that day. I’ll have to look up the bogs.
I’d rather you tell all the players not not play like busted arses for the first quarter and then after doing the hard work to lead by 3 goals in the last quarter and we managed to throw it away. I always thought Wallis was harshly criticised for that play when several other players made worse mistakes that game
Yep. We dominated them in the third quarter and should have pummeled them into submission. What was it 7.7 or 7.8 for the quarter? Should have been 5 goals up at 3/4 time
For me it is…
1993 Prelim v Adelaide
1984 GF
Anzac Day comeback game v Melb in the 90s
2001 Comeback game
1989 Final v Geel (the one we won). I watch the full replay of this game every pre-season
2000 Ansett Cup Grand Final (seems an odd choice but it was the first time in 2000 that we were dominant)
If I was to include games that I attended, I’d add…
2005? Anzac Day when Hird, Cupido and Lloyd kicked all the goals
Zakka’s Anzac Day
The game against West Coast when Hird went nuts in the last quarter
The drawn Anzac Day game
1999 Final against Sydney (awesome first half)
That QF was amazing because they kicked the first goal (kicked a point before it too) and David King did this windmill celebration and I, being the pessimist, thought “■■■■, we are going to be in for a tough one today, could be close”
We had 9.1 to quarter time, took our foot off the gas in the second and kicked 6 before going for the jugular in the 3rd and kicked 10. Yeah, close one alright
Knights vs Van Der Haar would have been great to watch.
Watching Coleman and also the day he did his knee
Exactly how did the 1897 season start and how it unfolded throughout the season.
Pretty much been to every game since 1989 so not too many other games. Maybe 1965 prelim when John Somerville was king hit. From all reports we just told every Collingwood player we are going to belt them for the rest of the game. We didn’t but it threw them off their game.
I missed the March in round 1 2017 because of my BIL wedding so that would have been good.
