Sky News is reviewing its new Sunday night program Freya Fires Up, hosted by Freya Leach, after removing an interview with a guest who appeared with bacon draped over his shirt and told the host it was to “protect him” from terrorists, as he made further racist and anti-Islamic comments before being cut off.
Leach introduced Williams as a “social media sensation” and a conservative political strategist. She later made a brief on-air apology for the interview.
“The reason I’ve got bacon on my shoulders is because the terrorists are a charming lot, and they threaten to behead me every single day, so a little bit of protection,” Williams said appearing to laugh.

At a hearing earlier this month Lattouf’s lawyers argued for the maximum penalty because of “significant pressure” put on senior management by Ita Buttrose, the broadcaster’s former chair, to sack Lattouf.
The trigger for Lattouf’s sudden removal on the Wednesday after her shift was an Instagram post she shared from Human Rights Watch that said Israel had used starvation as a “weapon of war” in Gaza.

Sometimes Sky News just had to bite the bullet in axing its newest After Dark program, Freya Fires Up, following host Freya Leach’s interview with an Islamophobic guest who wore rashers of bacon while live on air.
This morning, a Sky News spokesman confirmed that a decision had been made to discontinue the show, with immediate effect after just six shows.
While the new Sunday night show, Freya Fires Up, has been cancelled, its presenter Freya Leach will remain as co-host of Sky’s the Late Debate, which airs four nights a week.
I believe it’s a regular segment, with no advertising disclaimer.
I whinged about one a couple of weeks back in the “What annoys you” thread.
The blurring of news and commerce apparently doesn’t even have to be subtle these days.
