I would be shocked if Murphy and co are still at the club next year.
The only shock will be if his replacement isn’t ex-north.
Bet jona segal will be promoted in his place
Has to be a reasonable chance Cox can be added to the retirement list
Bombers backman still sidelined
Essendon defender Mason Redman is facing more weeks on the sidelines as he continues to deal with a calf injury.
A late withdrawal from Sunday night’s affair with Carlton, Redman has suffered a minor calf strain and is set for three weeks on the sidelines.
That is the same timeline for fellow backman Jordan Ridley (hamstring), while all of Kyle Langford (quad), Zach Reid (hamstring) and Saad El-Hawli (hamstring) are listed as four weeks away.
There is no timeline yet on returns for Harrison Jones (ankle) and Nik Cox (concussion)
Have there been an unusual number of calf injuries these past couple of season at Essendon?
Seems a little odd given these are all relatively young players.
There has clearly been an adjustment to our training program from last year.
I wonder if they’ve increased the loads on players to align with an adjusted game plan and this was a risk they considered may happen as a result.
Obviously ACL’s extra not included but the soft tissue injuries.
It’s almost reminiscent of the injury crisis that resulted in that little saga from a few years ago ![]()
How’s the fake review going, any fake results yet that the club plan on keeping secret.
Gresham is never too far away.
We were having this conversation about him 2 years ago and it was falling on deaf ears.
Now that he has derailed an entire season with a third of the list injured, we are forced to admit there is an issue we make a change?
Fu(k the club for persisting with this joker!
We are the worst managed club in sport.
Ethical tank is on. Hard.
Unusual for the rest of the competition, usual for Essendon lately.
Also we seem to have lower limb stress fracture every year in one of the first or second season recruits. Suggests maybe their training load is too much.
Interesting listened to study the other day saying army recruits need strength training for at least seven months prior to joining, otherwise their is no reduction in stress fracture injuries from the strength training.
Someone on blitz once suggested first year recruits don’t play footy the first year and solely build up their physique maybe it has some merit. or maybe it is something that should have more focus for the guys within our academy. Nguyen being a former NGA means we likely had opportunity to start proper weight training prior to draft to build up conditioning.
Noone likes leg day, particularly calf raises.
It takes years to build resilience in players to cope with the loads. We have a long history of breaking kids young and they end up injury prone for the rest of their careers. I think the way we look after young talls now through the VFL is a good thing. But from small and medium perspective clearly there is a lot of work to do.
Having said that, the training standards of individual players over the years has clearly been a contributing factor. As those reputed professionals also seem to be less injury prone.
And that is our biggest issue.
How do you raise the training standards without risking injury?
In the end, through repetition, their bodies will adjust. That’s the way your body works. When you lift weights, you don’t gain muscle mass whilst lifting weights. It’s in the rest period that your body adjusts to what you are doing.
I wouldn’t be surprised that we have increased training loads over the three years. It is required. It’s difficult not to do that in such a competitive environment.
The thing is, due to historical ‘lower end’ level of training standards, we’re playing catchup.
I don’t think we’re gassed at the end of games or towards the end of the season like we were last decade. So there has been some benefit in our fitness program. But the negatives have been there too.
Our injuries were better last season. It was marginal, but it was improving. This year is something else. And worth going with a different fitness group who can build off whatever has been done to this point.
Fixed
No Caddy at training!!! If he’s injured I might really implode.
