Interpret the rhyme

A man walks into a room.

On the wall in front of him he sees a portrait of a man.

He looks at it for a while then speaks this rhyme:

Brothers and sisters I have none,

but that man's father

is my father's son.

Don't think about it, just answer. Who is it a portrait of?

He's looking into a mirror or a picture of himself.

Himself

It will be a short thread.

mattmcp nailed it albeit with a question mark indicating not so sure.

But why not so sure? Do words not have meaning?

Think about the words carefully and you will come to the conclusion it is his son.

Ask your friends at work and 95% will say it is himself.

You see how the mind can play tricks? YOU SEE!!??

Why cant it be himself?

It can be read both ways.

TR&BP refers to himself in the third person.

YOU SEE?

No. it's only his son.

but that man's father (himself)

is my father's son.

He is his father's son, so he's looking a pic of his own son.

Think about it if you have the first line referring to yourself in the third person, then have the second line back to yourself in the first person. It then works as himself.

Yes, Mero, you are right. It can only be his son.

You guys need to open your minds to other possibilities and interpretations.

Don't be restricted to closed answers and conventional responses.

Look into things.  Twist concepts.

Your mind will boggle when you suddenly see new opportunities.

How can it not be either?

If I look into a mirror, then I can accurately say 'that man's father is my father's son.'

How can it not be either?
If I look into a mirror, then I can accurately say 'that man's father is my father's son.'

Only if you marry your own mother, which went out with the ancient Egyptians.

Nah.

1.  Son's father is dad's father's son.

2.  Reflection's father, is original father's son.

Or not?

Edit:  Nah, yeah-nah.  It can't.  It's just the son.

My mind just opened to the possibility that you are very dumb.

Keep thinking.  Keep that mind open.

Try and see the reasons for my post.

I spent about 4 minutes on this and finally worked it out.

Now my head hurts.

Thanks.

Or.....you could just be a man and admit you got the wrong answer. Don't add lack of character to your dumbness.

Is it wrong?

Remember, keep questioning what seems obvious.

Lumamba would love this thread.

Just change the last line from "my father's son" to "me".

Ergo, "that's man's father is me".
